How long can you go before you have to moisturize again? Also, for the ladies who have been using this method consistently for 3 months or longer, what benefits have you noticed?

I'm not sure if I'm an oil rinser (I spritz my dry hair with diluted con til it's damp and then put oil on my scalp and hair and then add my regular dc on top of that...). My hair is wayyy easier to detangle and simply under the shower. Sometimes I don't even have to comb it. Long term effect is less manipulation and less breakage . The other benefits depends on the oil itself...

I'd love to know as well. I am just starting to use oil as a pre-poo. It works wonders for detangling, but other than that, I don't know what benefits can be gained from oil rinsing.

I actually took a shower with oil only a few weeks ago....and my skin felt GREAT! I was really, really clean, which was surprising. Wonder if I can do this with my hair too....

(ETA, I have only taken an oil shower once in my entire life, and I only did it because my father is married to a woman from southern India, and she does it every day with coconut oil. She recommended I try and get back with her on what I thought. She doesn't use it on her hair as much though...but oil bathing is her thing. I did like it a lot. Not sure if I want to make it a permanent showering regimen, though...)

thanks for your replies ladies.

bumping....anyone doing still doing the sareca version of oil rinsing?

^^^I think Sareca's method involves putting the oil on soaking wet hair after shampooing and then add your conditioner and rinse. It makes detangling easy because of the incredible slip that oil has.

@ OP, I'm sorry. I never started doing it regularly; it makes such a mess. Even when I clean up, the person that takes a shower after me may break their neck, or I might slip and break my neck. I also couldn't figure out a good way to figure out how much oil I need. The first time I did it, I used too much and my hair airdried oily lol
Coconut oil is the only oil that works well for me. Olive didn't work well neither did jojoba or almond. I have revisited a couple of times if I really feel like I have extremely tangled hair, but I don't really do it often. Too many complaints about the slipperyness of tub. :giggle: I do try to clean it after but there is only so much you can do.

I've tried this along with an Ayurvedic regime and it worked wonders for my hair growth/retention but as your hair can stay somewhat oily, I wouldn't do it on a day when you wanted to wear your hair down or to a special occasion but the rest of time it's great for bunning or wearing a ponytail. I got the most growth when I did this and very few split ends which I normally have to try very hard to avoid. Hope this helps :)
