Question for the ladies who are natural..

A friend of mines wants me to wash and press her hair out tonight. I have no problem doing this but she has the thickest, most unmanagable hair ever. She normally wears a curly fro and for some reason she wants to straighten it. I have straighten her hair before but its been a minute and all I can remember is how hard of a time I had.

So first I have a few questions...

1. What is a good detangler I can get so after I finish washing her hair I will be able to comb it out with hurting her?

2. I use creme press from dudley on my relaxed hair, is that good for naturals also? I'm sure it has mineral oil in it. My hair doesnt mind it.

Any other suggestions you may have are appericated.

I'm not completely natural yet, but:

Detanglers: (both must be rinsed out though)
-Paul Mitchell "The Detangler"
-Tigi Dumb Blonde Reconstructor (yellow)(I know it's a reconstructor, but it detangles very well)

Make sure you use a heat protectant. Redken's Heat Glide is pretty good. I apply it to damp/wet hair then blowdry. I then use Ultra Sheen's cream press, which is probably similar Dudley's.

I get off work before she does so I told her I would stop and grab the products from CVS. I can't get that Paul Mitchell from there, can I?

Before you prss her hair, have her cornrow or plait it up the night before. It will make the process easier. You can also get a heat protectant at Sally's. The ION brand is decent. HTH

Well I'm doing it tonight after work. I sure she has her curly afro style going. And she has the nerve to be tender headed when she knows her hair is very hard to detangle. I just need something to make this process of combing it out better.

I know I'm late but a shower comb will help. IMO its also easier to detangle underwater. My niece had very thick hair, I used to wash it, put conditioner in it, detangle it and while it still had the conditioner in it, braid it in 4-6 loose braids, and then rinse out the condtioner while still in braids. Then I didnt have to detangle again. I used to then rebraid it neater and let it air dry, but you could just then take it down and dry it in sections if you are using a blow dryer, or roller set it and dry it, if you want to smooth it out some before you press it.
