I'm going to carry on all my baggage for the first time ever. Does that mean that ALL my personal stuff - makeup, shampoo, leave in conditioner, hair spray, butter, oil, styling gel, moisturizer, foundation, etc. etc. :lachen: Have to fit in one quart sized baggie? I mean you only get one baggie full?

If so, what do you choose to take? I've never had to think about this before because I always just pay the extra money and check my bag. These are tight times though.

Makeup doesn't have to go in there except if you use a liquid foundation otherwise I keep it in my makeup bag

Depends on how long I'm going but I have mini hairsprays, I keep a moisturizer, face cream, in small bottles. get the qt bag with the expandable bottom you can fit more

If you plan on carrying on - you can have multiple quart sized bags BUT the size of each container inside the clear bags cannot exceed 3 oz. You can make your own containers using clear travel containers but be sure to LABEL it. Some TSA agents are sticklers.

However, if you are checking your bags in, you can take full sized containers in your CHECKED luggage only.

Be sure to check the travel guidelines (airport website or airline website) for any last minute changes.

It depends on how long I'm traveling for and where I will be staying. Usually I leave the lotions and what nots to the people Im visiting or the hotel Im staying in. HERE is how I condense my makeup.

For my hair I over moisturize my before leaving so that a little water will help when attempting to style or set while on the trip. I also am sure to start with a style that is very versatile and can withstand not getting much attention.

If you are able to carry on all your luggage, I don't expect this will be a long trip for you. You can do it!

mzteaze - I didn't know they allowed multiple quart sized bags. Are you sure? Whats the 3-1-1 for?

westNDNbeauty When I went to Bermuda about 9 mos ago, I had 2 quart sized bags filled to the gills. As long as each container was 3 oz and less...I had no problems. TSA on both sides pulled each bag out and checked it closely. This was all carried on.

You don't have those problems with checked bags tho. However, things change regularly which is why you should check for last minute changes.

ETA: I just checked TSA (http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm). I see the 3-1-1 policy. They didn't give me a fuss. BUT, better safe than sorry. Check one bag and carry on one bag.

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.

The official rule is you can have 1 bag per passenger.

just went through security with my one official bag, and a 5 hour energy drink in my purse.....

LadyRaider, honestly after all of this - it made me think - I took 2 bags without issue. HOWEVER, I didn't use nearly half the stuff I took.

Best thing you can do is select items that can be used more than one way. Oils you can use on your body and hair, etc. Look very critically at what you NEED. Also, I have yet to go on a vacation where I wash my hair. Yet I drag stuff with me like I am going to do it.

I would be careful with the multiple quart size bags OP. I have gotten yelled at for it before.

I use travel size bottles and fill them with my products. I am always fine now, with having one bag and everything fits since contact lens solution and other medical fluids are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule. Also the hotel/host will have extra condish if I need it. O and another tip from the TSA site: the 3-1-1 rule does not apply to frozen liquids.

Mztease,
I was feeling very insecure about how I would wear my hair, but after this travel baggage conversation and y'all's help, I decided to straighten it so I don't need shampoo, condition, leave in, etc. etc. And earlier talking to Nonie I decided to prepare mostly for updos.

But before the TSA limited my choices, I was bringin' EVERYTHING to make sure my 'fro was in order!

Wasn't sure if make up had to fit in there, though. I am bringing a powder make up. So none of it should count as liquid.

Instead of loading up on stuff for my twistout washngo whatever... I'm loading up on hair accessories!

TSA don't always catch liquids that does not meet their criteria. Most of the time they won't detect it. If the item is not important enough, meaning if it get confiscated you'd be fine with it, I'd take it.

Thank you guys so much. I got my baggie prepared. I can't believe it is just one tiny baggie, but oh well! Got it covered!

Pray for me that I can keep my swang at least until tomorrow evening!

This is why I say they are inconsistent. MY SO and I both had multiple bags and no one blinked an eye on either side with international travel. BUT, I forgot a small bottle of water in my purse. They were ALL over that.
