For those of you who will be traveling by air, and are unaware of the new security rules, here is a site (Transportation Security Administration) that informs you on what can be included in your carry-on, etc.

Make Your Trip Better Using 3-1-1

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.

Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening.

Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.

3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.

Declare larger liquids. Prescription medications, baby formula and milk (when traveling with an infant or toddler) are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints.

TSA working with our partners. TSA works with airlines and airports to anticipate peak traffic and be ready for the traveling public.

Here's an example pic that I got from another website:

To be on the safe side, I will just be putting all of my hair products in my checked luggage...I don't need to be co-washing on the plane anyway, lol.

I hate to check luggage, I rarely go on a long enough trip to need more than one carry-on sized bag. But I have been checking lately to avoid the hassel. I've dealt with some borderline personalities, getting attitudes when the product is not marked "3 oz." etc. I would assume if you've been looking at 3 oz. or less containers ALL DAY EVERY DAY you can eyeball that stuff pretty easily, and don't get me started on lip gloss and chap stick:mad: , bars of soap, ink pens, and saline solution (that only comes in 4oz containers)...

I lost HoneyComb's Aveda products that way.

Did they compensate you for it? Did they offer to try to get it put into your already checked luggage?

They trash stuff with the quickness. Ticks me off.
I guess it better to know the rules before hand to avoid the hassle.

Nope.
................................

That makes me soooooooooo mad because it causes such an inconvenience to people. I hate it when people (government, airlines, etc.) don't give a crap about civilians.

Aveda costs a pretty penny, and I'd be pissed if I had to throw it away, and I bet you that the people who work at the airports go through that stuff at the end of the day and take what they want.

One person just had to bring a liquid bomb on an airplane, and mess it up for EVERYBODY. I hate when people abuse stuff like that. I can't bring any full sized liquids/gels on board because of some low-life.

girl you'd better say that ! How come I was going home, and placed a ton of keracare humecto and silicone mix in 2 sep containers.

Not realizing the new rules, they were confiscated.

I tried eeeeverything to keep them. I almost cried having to see my products (I was given that sample of silicone mix by someone and that was the last of it) be thrown away.

:(

thicknlong, I really hate that happened to you.

I think that now, they have a sign up warning you about the new rules, before you check in your luggage. That way, if you have any liquids in your carryon, you can put them in your luggage.

O.k., see, this just makes me mad.

I travel alot, and I try to follow the FAA's damn rules. But the biggest problem is the airport screeners!

I went through two different security lines at two different airports with all my stuff, and had no problems whatsoever...until I got to the third airport, and one of the screeners was like, nope, you'll have to throw half this stuff in your plastic bag away.

Everyone else had allowed it through, WTH? She said the bag just didn't "sit right."

WTF does that mean?! Didn't sit right?!
I HATE flying right now.

i almost lost my MAC cosmetics like this. The regulation includes makeup! Can you believe that?!

Girl, I will cut someone if I ever have to toss out my makeup.
I'd be the number one name on the "no fly" list!

So..what kinda LHCF member are you anyway not to be co-washing on the plane??
Thanks, I haven't flown since the new regs...how silly flying is becoming!

so can you bring things larger than 3oz?

I leave for Argentina in a couple of days and I don't want to bring anything of my products, make up and perfume because i'm scared they may take it.

Growin:

You cannot bring over 3 oz in regards to carry on luggage. If you have liquids more than 3 oz than you need to checkin your luggage.

It is frustrating but what can you do. I am forced to checkin luggage that I could have carried on before and would have carried on before.

The only carry on luggage I am taking onboard is my make up(nothing will liquid)jewelry ,purses, slippers, high heals, silk scarfs and belts..these things are expensive and I do not want anyone wearing my Italian purses.

I am so frustrated because I had gifts for people and had to seperate the liquid stuff. :perplexed

Oh yes, they WILL steal your stuff if they see something that they like. My boyfriend's XBox was stolen out of his suitcase last year. I surely don't want any of my stuff stolen. I'm thinking of laying a big sheet of paper in my suitcase (on top of my things) saying something like "I know what's in my suitcase; inventory has been taken; do not steal; I will report." That way, when the person opens my luggage to ramble through my things, he/she will see the note and know that I'm not playing.

TSU:

I know this to be true.

I just know I would have a fit to see someone walking around with my silk scarfs and Italian purses. I paid good money for my purses.

I am even afraid of people stealing my shoes. I have expensive high heel shoes. I am sure someone would even take my Ralph Lauren slippers.

I am even wondering if I should pack my lingerie. I got some gorgeous and expensive corsets in there that I wear under my dresses. I will be praying the whole time. Praying that I do not have to get crazy, if someone takes my things.

I would say try to put your corsettes and stuff in smaller opaque bags (shopping bags, grocery bags, etc.). That way, they won't just be laying there out in the open like "bam, look at me, take me!" Hopefully the baggage screeners won't open up the smaller bags and ramble through them. But it's just a suggestion that could maybe help if you can't fit them all in your carry-on.

Hehe, that reminds me of my wife and kids when they went to hawaii and the man was walking around in Micheal's clothes. Oh yea does anyone know the regulations on VITAMINS , because im going away for a month in december (NY and JA), and im telling you if someone was to take my vitamins (all the ones i have listed in my niggy) i would have to hurt someone. Couldn't i just carry them in my hand luggage? :ohwell:

Crissi, you should be able to have them in your carry-on. I don't see why not. If you'd like, you should be able to put them in your checked luggage also.

That's a good idea. That's the best we can do to protect ourselves. I think I'll do that, too.

One of my co-workers had to throw away an expensive bottle of perfume that she hardly used because of the new regulations. She parked at the airport, but she didn't have time to go back to her car.

I have a bottle of prescription acne face wash that's more than 3 oz. Last time I flew they checked to make sure the pharmacy sticker was on the bottle with my name.

I think that travel web sites and airlines should tell you this when you call or go to their web site. They should make it very obvious on their web sites in huge letters to make sure no one misses it.

I think airports should do 2 things for the people who don't know about the rules:
1) If it's the passenger's home city, or if they have a layover there on the way back, have a storage area where they have X number of days to come back and claim their stuff.
2) If the passenger isn't returning to the airport, have an area where they can maybe pay for a box and postage to have their stuff mailed to them.

I know that would require an extra staff person or two and extra space, but people want their favorite shampoo, lotion, perfume, etc.

I flew in October, but luckily my mom told me about this before I packed my stuff. Otherwise I would have thrown out a lot.

TSU:

I am a frequent natiowide and international traveler. I also know people who work for a major airline. I took all the necessary precautions:grin: Yet, that does not stop people from stealing.

I booby trap everything. I use to put locks on things inside but once someone cut it off  . So I use zip locks and put clear tape to see if someone touches something..I even use thread. I have been frequently traveling over 15 years but still I take nothing for granted, especially today. Some of these baggage handlers would even take your LaPerla panties just to sell on the street. So far no one has stolen from me but I have had my things smell like smoke once, so I know someone was smoking when they went through my thngs.

This is a very timely thread, thank you OP for starting this. When I head to the Carribean this summer, I'm thinking about putting a bottle of MNT conditioner for all purpose usage, co-washing, leave-in etc, in my suitcase and calling it day. Nobody better mess with my hair products or MAC or else there will be hell to pay! :swearing: :spank:

Thanks for giving us the "head's up." I would hate to have to throw away some of my hair care products. I'll just make sure to oil my hair thoroughly before I leave home (Los Angeles) this summer and pack very light with inexpensive and very small amounts of personal products or items just in case they get thrown away.
