Question about Protein Conditioner

Hi
I am new to the site and love all the great tips I get from the site. I went out and purchased the Aphogee Treatment for damaged hair, and when I read the back it said I needed the shampoo and the balencing moisterizer. I know that most often companies will try to get you buy their entire line, but when dealing with an protein i just want to make sure. By the way I use ORS shampoo and Mayo

That stuff is pretty strong so I don't take chances. I bought the three piece protein treatment, balance moisturizer and something else when it was all packaged together for $20. That is the only time I ever buy it. I don't think I ever used the shampoo. To me it doesn't make a difference what shampoo you use. I honestly don't know if it makes a difference if you use another moisturizer but don't get the shampoo.

The reason the Balancing moisturizer is required, Protein will and can dry out the hair. Yes it will strengthen your hair but it dries the hair shaft. The purpose of the balancing conditioner will help to replenish moisture and soften the hair. IMO, you can substitue the Moisture Balancing conditioner, only with a SUPERB moisturizer such as Mizani Hydrafuse.

Oh I forgot to mention something. I just read the back of the bottle. The Aphogee balancing moisturizer has a lot of citric acid in it, (it smells like oranges too YUMMY!) to like restore the pH level in the hair or something after the treatment. Whatever moisturizer you use probably has to have that in it or else you might run into problems. Something like that. What do I know about chemistry? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Can protein disrupt the pH of the hair???? I never knew that. That's why I love this board :0

When i used it I never used the other aphogee products with it. I used a shampoo and conditioner of course but they were different brands. I got a "tuff head" anyways, meaning it can withstand a lot of abuse or things done incorrectly without any major damage.
