Question about mizani BB sensitive scalp =/

I just bought Mizani Butter Blend sensitive. This will be my first time doing my own relaxer [well, having someone else do it.. not a stylist] and I am terrified of burning my scalp off lol so I bought sensitive. BUT ... I didn't realize that it's no-lye [or is it?] and I meant to buy lye.
Have any of you used this? I don't know the difference btwn lye & no-lye but from what I understand, no-lye is more drying.

Anywho ... should I still use this one?

And feel free to give any other tips about self-relaxing, although I'm still searching/reading about it on this forum :)

btw, you guys have taught me so much! <3 thank you!

OH! Also ... I will be using the ORS creamy aloe shampoo to neutralize. Good idea? Bad idea? Mizani products are too $$$ to buy everything from that brand >_<

if i were u, i'd get the neutralizing shampoo that goes along with the relaxer if you want good results. no need in half steppin when it comes to ur hair.

i know some of the woman who self relax on this board will offer you some good tips for maximum results. it may be time consuming, but it's worth it. good luck.

I self texlax and I used to use the exact same relaxer (No-Lye Mizani Butter Blends for Sensitive scalp) and yes at first I loved it. But the dryness that came about from just underprocessing my hair (left it on about 5 minutes, smoothed it a little) was off the hook!

Thankfully I read on the board about the difference between LYE and No-Lye (You mix No-Lye with the activator) and I decided I was using the wrong type of relaxer. I still have an entire box left untouched, can't return it. I bought the larger tub of Lye Relaxer for Color Treated hair and boy oh boy I could feel the difference immediately.

I personally feel that any nuetralizing shampoo will work, but that's just my opnion. Even though I feel that way a year ago I bougth Mizani's Nuetralizing Shampoo and I still have half a bottle left. It lasts forever. So do what you think is best.

If you have LYE relaxer in your hair now, I hope you do not overlap the No-Lye with the LYE or vice versa. It's best to grow it out so that there is no chance of overlapping even when using the same type of relaxer. Also be sure to base your scalp.

If you can make the time, please review the self relaxers support thread. All the steps to having a successful self relaxer are laid out.

I grew my hair from natural shoulder length to Texlaxed right above bra-strap length with support from this board. But READ first and then plan and THEN try it at home.

I hope this helps!

I don't self relax but my stylist just used this for the first time on me. This was her first time using it as well.

I just wanted to note that she said it was very soupy to her. It wasn't thick at all in comparison to the Mizani Sensitive Scalp. So, I don't know if that makes a difference in applying it to the new growth.

I would use the ORS Olive Oil Neutralizing shampoo first as a TRUE neutralizing shampoo, then the inexpensive color signal shampoo to ensure the relaxer is all out. Then follow with the ORS creamy Aloe shampoo. I know it says it neutralize but I wouldn't take any chances when they have a true neutralizing shampoo that they recommend after using their relaxer.

I use three neutralizing shampoos (I like different properties of each one, and I've acquired them over time...ORS Olive oil, Motions, and the color signal) and then moisturizing shampoos.
...hth!

Thank you all so much for the [extremely] helpful responses! I bought reg/lye BB in regular/normal! TY, luvs!
