Question about Mango and Shea Butter.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if i could just whip my other oils into the mango and shea butter without melting it? Would that work or would it seperate? I want to add some sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and maybe some Jamiacan Mango and Lime Island oil to my butters. I want to just test a few different mixtures out. The shea butter i have it very soft and creamy and the Mango butter is a bit harder. What would be the best way. I was going to use my food processor to mix them together. What do you think would be best?

From what I've been doing with my pure shea you can just mix the oils in if it's soft enough to stir. I have elasta qp mango butter (obviously not pure) and I mixed some with that too, it didnt object or need warming.

I don't normally use shea butter but when I buy pure mango butter it is waaaay too hard for me to mix any oils into until I've melted it. I use a double boiler for best results.

My mango butter looks like its too hard just to mix it in there. So i am about to melt it and give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

I mixed my virgin Mango Butter with refined Jojoba Oil after I had slightly warmed the Mango Butter until it was softened. I had to be careful when heating the Mango Butter because it will completely melt and I didn't want that.

I just wanted to post how it came out. I dont have a double boiler so i had to use 2 sauce pans. 1 is really wide and shallow and the other was narrow and tall. I boiled the water in the shorter one. Then turned off the heat then put the mango butter in the taller pan and put the pan with the mango butter into the pan with the hot water. It melted pretty fast. I took it out the hot water as soon it it had completely melted. Then i added my oils. Then i filled the pan that had the hot water in it with cold water from the tap. Then i put the pan with the melted mango butter into the pan with the cold water. The oil thickened back up a bit. Then i put it in the freezer and stirred it ever few minutes. Now is smooth and creamy like Elasta QP's mango butter. Thanks for all the replies.

I have a food processor specifically for mixing my butters. I mix unrefined shea butter and mango butter with oils and it blends together beautifully. I blend until the mixture becomes creamy. My family loves it! We use it from head to toe.

Why is unrefined Mango Butter better than ultra refined? Are nutrients lost in the refinement process? I'm just wondering because I'd like to start making my own mixtures. Thanks!
