question about hair cutting scissors

Hello everyone. About a month ago I bought a pair of 6" cutting scissors. I haven't started using them regulary yet, but I was wanting to know how to do sharpen your hair cutting scissors? I am afraid to do this as I think it would damage the sharpness of the blade. Any adivse will be greatly appreciated.

You could take them to a barber shop to get them sharp.

I know this may sound crazy....my mom has been cutting hair for 20 years and she uses aluminum foil to sharpen scissors (well known barber secret) She folds up several layers of aluminum foil and cuts through it with the scissors. You can tell the sharpness. Feel free to try it if you wish!!
