Cause every time I use it, my hair just gets redder. Last weekend was the third time.

Here's my recipe:

3 teaspoons of cassia
I boil water and add water to a sort of thickish consistency.

Then I add to the mix:
1 teaspoon of organic coconut oil
1 tablespoon of cholesterol conditioner

I let it sit for 10-15 minutes because I usually do it before washing my hair. Then I put it on, slap on some plastic wrap and put a plastic bag over that for 30 minutes.

after 30 minutes I rinse it out using conditioner to help remove the cassia.

I really do like how strong my hair is, but this last time it was so red it was really freaky. (my hair is natually brown.)

I'm just glad its not Ronald Mcdonald red:lol:

Anyway I'm not sure what to do at this point? Maybe I shouldn't use it anymore? I ordered it from Catherine and other than the color change to my hair I think its a great product.

Cassia is not supposed to change the color of your hair because it's neutral. Do you think you may have accidentally gotten regular henna instead of cassia?

I guess its possible but since I've never used henna before, I'm not sure if its a color or smell difference. (is it?)

I've sent her an email just to ask what she thought of it. To me its not a matter of getting money back because have to say that I do like how strong its made my hair is sans the color.

But if there was a mixup maybe its something they can be sure dosen't happen to someone else.

Maybe she accidentially sent you henna...

I think it was an accident too. Last month I ordered cassia and indigo from her, but I got henna instead of indigo.

She quickly responded to my email and sent the indigo.

Whats the best way to tell besides using it? I've only got one bag of the cassia left...or at least it says cassia. I didn't notice any color change at all on my hair with the first bag I used and have to admit, I have amla too and if it werent labled I wouldn't know whats what.

I then checked a few of my gray hairs and they're a pretty sparkly red.

Maybe I should just get a brown rinse and call it a day....:ohwell:

Cassia is green. ONLY green. If you put it on clear hair, it would turn the hair sort of golden. There's no red in it. I use cassia sometimes and if I don't rinse it well, my white plastic shower comb will turn green.

Sounds like you've got henna, for sure. If you want to test it, mix it up with water and let it sit for several hours to let any color release. Then try smearing some on your palm, waiting a moment and then washing it off. If it turns your palm orange or turns the water you rinse it off with orange, that's henna.

I think cassia was turning my hair a different color over time. I did not realize it until I stopped using any herbal products for about a month or so. My hair got back to is darker, black color. That was after using only cassia for months and months.

It was not a bad reddish, but my hair was lighter. I have black hair and I saw that. My cassia came for Catherine, as well. I also got some from that indian exporters place and hennq sooq.

I was on another forum (don't remember which one) and one of the women was talking about how cassia DOES change your hair color. She posted pictures and said she only used Cassia and there was a slight reddish color to her hair. She said it was not as much as regular hennah, but she wanted people to know.

Wow this IS interesting!

I did get a message from catherine this morning and I gave her some other information.

Being that my hair is a dark to medium brown I figured I would be safe. I hadn't used a dark rinse since December, and relaxed not long ago so when I started using cassia it was on my natural color.

I was thinking that maybe I should just stop using it for a while and just get a brown rinse, even though i do like how strong my hair has gotten from it. I just don't want my hair getting any redder.

Yeah, I stopped using it for a while and my color normalized. I think weekly for months and months was just too much. My black hair started turning brownish. Now all my hair is black again. It was that cassia because I was not using henna at the time.

Got an email back from catherine and she said she got a better supplier for cassia. I don't doubt I'll order more, but I do think maybe I should take a wee bit of a break as well. I may also just do a rinse to dark brown too.
