Putting in braids or weave after a perm

Hi y'all,
I want to texturize my virgin hair. At the same time, I would like the option of going back to braids or weave sometime later on. The way a weave is done with me is to cornrow the hair and then loop individual hair underneath. Granted this might result in a "big" look if you use too much hair

I heard that one is supposed to wash the faux hair and soak it in ACV to get the chemicals out of it before putting it into your own hair. I do this. I have experienced that faux hair can be somewhat drying so I gloop my hair with conditioners and oils before braiding. As long as I use Cream of Nature shampoo for washing and use a type of moisturizer for the braids - all is OK (although I still use a reconstructor after taking them out as a safe measure). Also, when using water from a shower water filter, my hair comes out much, much better!

Is there anyone using the cornrowed weave after applying a perm or texturizer? Do you encounter any problems with breakage or dry hair? I worry that breakage from the weight of the faux hair would be more likely to happen with texturized/permed hair than with natural hair.

Is there a way to get around this problem?

Kind Regards,

Hi I think I am doing what you are doing is it called crochet braiding or integration? I dont find that my hair is all that heavy I use synthetic. Also to keep my hair in good condition I wet it everday. This is my first time doing it and I have not ever done it right after a relaxer.

Hi iCandey,

Thank you for responding

Perhaps we are doing the same thing. I cornrow and then loop individual pieces under the cornrow. This way, my hair can grow. I have worn the weave shorter than my own hair by tucking under the ends

Are there other things you do to keep your hair in good condition? How long would you wait after a perm before putting the weave back into the hair again?

I think given that your hair is processed if you are texturized and would need more TLC, having it out of your reach for too long could pose a problem. I think the best solution is to make sure you don't keep the weave in too long if you do decide to get a texturizer. One month - two tops would be the longest I'd go. I'd also check with other ladies who have experience with weaves (I think Henrilou and Amillion have if I'm not mistaken) and see what they did to care for chemically treated hair underneath the weave.

Hi Tracy,

Thank you again for the help. I will see if I can page (or P-Mail) Henrilou and Amillion.

Kindest Regards,

hi -yeh I think we are doing the same thing...

other things I do:
continue to rinse, oil scalp and massage daily
if I get under the shower to rinse my scalp I wear a hair net so that the weight of water plus the weave arent pulling on my hair.

the perm thing is a good question..now with additional knowledge I would probably wait a couple of days after perm and recornrowing...maybe if I do a recontructer after relaxer it will be okay..I have just started this crochet thing so we will see.when I had sewn in I would weave the very same day..I heard thats not the best thing for your hair- it makes sense that its not...
