2questions: I love affirm 5in1 reconstructor but i dont know if it is hard protein or not. Some say it is and some say it is a protein moisture mix...would like to know this one but also, if i add oil then could i then reduce the strength of the protein so i could use it more often? I Added Castor oil and coconut oil to my freshly washed hair before i added the reconstructor today and my hair came out lovely and moisturised...?

I read an article by Macherieamour (www.healthytextures.com) a year ago or so that listed Affirm 5 in 1 reconstructor as a combination of moisturizing&protein based conditioner. She also named Mizani Fulfyl. I hope someone else can explain whether you can reduce the strength of a protein conditioner.

I just added olive oil to the bottle, and I was just wondering about this. I'll know if my stylist says something when I take it to the salon. I won't tell him that I added oil to it.

I would think that if it were a penetraiting oil like Coconut, Olive, Emu, etc...that it would reduce the concentration of the protein. There is only so much room inside the hair shaft...If the oil penetrates, there is only "some" room for the protein to get in.

But a non-penetrating oil like Jojoba oil (and there are others that I can't remember) would only sit on the outside of the hair strand. That type of oil wouldn't occupy space in the hair shaft, therefore leaving room for more protein to come in.

??????????

No one ever called me an expert though!

**waiting for a Chemist to post**
