Protective Styling -- share your ideas

Hey, ladies: I'm setting a goal to reach waistlength (or near-about) sometime in '08. I know that I really need to get more into protective styling if I'm going to reach my goal, but right now I'm drawing a blank and all I can imagine is wearing a bun for a year (I can you tell right now that ain't happening -- I wouldn't last a month!) :nono:

I might add that I'm one of those people who get bored with a hairstyle quickly, so I really need some cute, fun options to make this work. With that said, what things do you do to get through those long, protective styling stretches? Here's another question: is a rollerset updo considered a protective style?

TIA

There are a couple schools of thought on protective styles. One believes you have to hide the ends (baggy, bun, phony pony). The other believes as long as the ends are brushing against your shoulders you're protecting them. I'm in the later group. I think a rollerset updo is a good protective style.

I wear my hair in a doughnut bun, bun cages, snoods, bun snoods and my beloved UPA Clip. Sometimes I twist my hair in the back, fold it up and clip it to the top of my head. I'm horrible at describing things, did that make any sense? Anywho, I think that's all the styles I do. HTH!

Here's my list.
French roll, Bun with hair sticks, french braid, inverted french braid, ponytail with ends pinned under, braids, bantu knots, donut buns, phony ponytails, twists, chinese bun, and the perimeter twist (flat twist along crown starting at one ear going across front and ending on opposite side after going around head)
