I remember an article of a young lady on here that wore her hair up for a year. She is now almost waist length, I wanted to know if anyone else has done this with that type of success? Is it worth being a little plain for a year with the bun lol?

Yes, it definately is. I PS for six months but lost all of my progress (down my shoulder blades) when I didn't take care of my length and let it all hang out.

My hair was about 2 inches long when I Bced last september. Now it's pretty close to shoulder length. I haven't had it straightened since April (the sides were about chin length and the back was about collar lenght) but I have an appt this week so we'll see. If I'm not shoulder length yet, I should be by the end of the year.

ETA: Your hair doesn't really grow faster bc of the Protective Styles. The Protective styles are helping you to retain the growth you've acheived by protecting your ends. HTH...
