protective styles ( drawstring ponytails)

hi all,
This question is for those of you that use a drawstring ponytail as your protective style. What are you using to hold your hair in place? Are you guys using rubberbands or what? Doesn't rubberbands cause breakage to you hair? Please let me know.

Is the drawstring ponytail only for relaxed hair?

I'm assuming you have to at least be able to put your hair in a ponytail, which I cannot.

Can the pulling caused by putting your hair in one cause breakage?

Is this something you put on and take out every day?

I'm transitioning, but I have more natural hair than relaxed hair now. I wear a drawstring afro puff. I take it off as soon as I get behind closed doors.

Pulling too tight and rough handling can definitely lead to breakage. I make sure I'm very gentle.

I've been trimming off the relaxed ends a little at a time. But I made sure to leave enough for a little ponytail. If it were shorter, I'd probably slick it back the best I could and just pin the puff to my head. Or maybe I'd wear a headband afro puff wig--
