Okay. I can't do my own hair. Let's just say that now. I just wanted to do it in a half style so I can see my progress from my February to now.

That's three inches in five months! Congratulations. I know it seems like it takes forever for hair to grow but sometimes you make it sound as if your hair isn't growing at all. But hey if you've tracked three inches thus far, that's somehting to smile about!

When I first viewed this, the second pic didn't show and i was thinking what the heezy is wrong with HR???

but now that I returned, I see your progress and

it's looking very nice.

Don't feel bad honeyrockette, I remember when I had that look going on. My husband bought me the tiniest curling iron so I could curl the back. After my styling attempts, the best I could get my hair to look like was the cling on in Star trek. That was with a nice little curl comb which would break up the curls, and not give me the puffed look.

So what did I do...I kept on shaving that section until my hair could cover it. It also got rid of the shag look that will come next.

Thanks for the advice Skegee, but this will be the LAST time I try to do my hair until it reaches at least shoulder length! It looks like an old lady wig on me. I already slicked it back and attached my clip on bun thing. Doesn't it take longer to grow out if you keep shaving the back? The very back of my hair is now about 3-4 inches long. It isn't really a problem because it is long enough to put into a middle ponytail without hair sticking out in the back. I think this is the tail end of that awkward too-long-to-slick-back-yet-too-short-to-ponytail phase. I am putting braids in next week and I am going to keep them in until November or December. After that it should be smooth sailing.

Flips look good at that length. Maybe you could try that sort of style. At any rate, congrats on the growth!

Honey Rockette, how do you measure your hair.

From the front of the scalp to the end of the hair at the back?

Or from the root of the hair to the end of the hair?

I'm just curious. You state that your hair is thirteen inches and was 10 inches when you started.

I measure my hair from the front hairline to the end of the longest layer.

My hair did take longer to grow out in the back. I flipped my hair too. I also did the teeniest weeniest ponytail with barrettes to hold the pieces in the back that were too short to include into my ponytail. It took a while for the top of my hair to cover the back, and the sides to fit into the ponytail, but I was finally able to put a ponytail in my hair during the beginning of this year.

I also used the cloth headband that fits around the head to hide the short back hair.

August to December my hair looked like it stayed at this length:

And I hid the short back hair with the headband like so:

I would have done the ponytail method, but my hair wasn't long enough on the sides to slick back, so I just gritted my teeth until I got past this stage. At least you can do the ponytails.

Also LOL @ old lady wig: that's what i called what my mom used to do to my hair as a child. Big ol' pompa do sittin' on my head. Not everyday though, naw she saved that embarrassment for those special occasions when I’d be photographed.

Congratulations HR!!!! that is alot of growth. don't feel bad i had to go through those stages also, but now my hair is at my earlobe on the sides and in the back touching the middle part of my neck. i'm still trying to grow it out so to keep heat off of it. i just got microbraids put back in that i plan on keeping in until novemeber or december also.
