This is mostly for natural ladies but also just for anyone with a suggestion :)
I am a natural head and after a second Big Chop in june, my hair is this length

I got offered a job as an office assistant in a law firm (which I am super excited about:) ) this morning and I am a bit worried about their reaction concerning my hair. When I interviewed I had on braids. I had planned on taking my braids out today but right now I don't know how I would style my hair. I have to start training wednesday morning so I gotta think fast...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

IMHO I think the style you have is professional. If you put a stylish suit on and minimal makeup, I think you should be fine. I know how you feel because I recently went back to work. I think you look beautiful and as long as you dont wear something unappropiate you will be just fine.Just my 2 cents:)

i'm not natural but i think your hair length is very cute. For that length i think a headband or a scarf tied around the front looks very cute and professional. And you will have to be sure to dress and act super professional so they can't say u are not. But you may not feel entirely comfortable no matter what you do, until you can ask your new boss or perhaps someone in the office for honest advice. So gone ahead and bite the bullet and just ask someone... goodluck!

Thanks ladies for the suggestions and thanks Mizani for the compliment:)
I guess I'll take down my braids and wear my hair pulled back as you suggested and then ask the lady who I'll be assisting what's the dress code as it relates to hair style. I had thought of putting cornrows in the front but it might not go well with the partners for a first sighting.
I haven't styled my hair in a minute so hopefully I still got some accessories in my drawers.

That reminds me that I also have to expand my formal wardrobe...

Your hair is cute. I have to agree with the other ladies, as long as you dress and are professional, that's the main thing. I've been a legal secretary/assistant for 11 years, I don't think anyone would say anything about your hair where I work. Congrats on the new job! :)

Thank You, I'm really excited even though it's just a part time and a basic job of assisting the assistant
One has to start somewhere and since I'm a full time college student this will do for now :)

I started the exact same way as you at the firm I work at: as an Office Services Assistant. I did copy jobs, runs to the courthouse, closing and delivering files, ordering supplies, conf. room setup, etc. It's a good way to beef up the ol' resume and "get your foot in the door" so to speak. :)

Congratulations on your new job! You and your hair look pretty and I'm sure all will turn out very well! :)

Your hair is neat, clean and styled perfectly in my opinion! I would however ask someone, probably the assistant that you are assisting, what she thinks. Just in a casual sort of way.

I love your hair just the way it is! :)
Congratulations on your new job!

you're so pretty and your hair suits you. i notice that you're in LA--me too. i think that you'll be fine because you look stylish and LA is liberal enough where I don't think you'll have a problem at all. once you get comfortable in the office, i'd rock the cornrows like you mentioned.

my office is laidback and i wear afro puffs all the time (i am text. but it looks very natural and "wild") and no one gives me grief--in fact--compliments.

ITA with the other ladies. A nice professional outfit and minimal makeup and you should be fine!!!!! Good luck!!!!! Let us know how your first day goes!!!!

I like your hair it is so cute. I woudl suggest a wearing a wig until you feel comfortable wearing it out.
Thanks for the compliment :)
hmmm I don't do wigs, too scared it might fly off
I'm comfortable with my hair, it's just that others might not be. If they weren't my employers I wouldn't give a doodo about them but they are. I didnt take out my braids yet so they haven't seen my hair. But next week they will be seeing me with a nice afro puff and we will just see how they react :)

Oh about my first day at the office:
Well as I said previously I didn't take out the braids because I didn't have time. I got there early and the office manager who I'm assisting was kinda late. Anyways the day went fine it was pretty laid back since there was almost nobody in the firm today (out of town trip). It's really a basic office assistant job: copying, filing making coffee, opening the mail, answering the phones when the office manager/receptionist is not in etc... They hired 2 other assistants who all go to the same school I go to so it's really cool. I think I'm going to like it especially th flexibility. I don't have to wear a suit, just wear something that looks professional :)

I'll keep you posted on the hair next week:D T
Thanks a lot ladies for all the nice words and advices;)
I might have to run to the barbershop again, depending on how my hair looks when I take these braids down. I know my friends will thnk I'm crazy, cutting my hair again after 2 months :)

Your hair will be fine. I would agree that wearing it in an afro puff with a small headband (check my photo album for examples) is very professional.

Now, people may be surprised about your hair, not necessarily because it's natural, but because it's shorter or way different than it was during the interview. Don't misread people's surprise or looks as disapproval.

I work with government agencies and businesses in my role as a marketing professional, and I thought nothing of it when I went natural. Remember, most folks don't trip off our hair, one way or another, as much as "we" trip off our hair.

Good luck.

Hi your hair is exquisite and congratulations on you new job.
I'm a newbie here but I guess you made me appreciate the fact that here in corporate Canada, no one would dear say a thing. Here even your hair has rights.

You go out and show what the good Lord gave you.
