I've been self-relaxing for about 9 months now, and even though i've perfected my method, i still have some spots that are underprocessed, in the middle of the hair shaft.

those parts look like this...
|
| <-- straight, perfectly processed hair close to the scalp

| <-- previously perfectly straightened hair BEFORE i started self-relaxing

they're wavy now, but they can be difficult to blow-dry through. i'm considering going to a salon (for the first time in over a year) to get everything "even-ed out".

has anyone done this, WITHOUT the stylist overprocessing your hair?

i'm so scared, but i'd be even more scared to even out my underprocessed parts myself.

Has anyone had any luck with this?

I have successfully corrected underprocessed hair myself, but the underprocessed part was at the ends. My hair also can just take abuse from relaxers.

It can be done! It's just going to be tricky. You really need to apply it to the right parts and make sure to protect the ends. Make sure you go to a GOOD stylist.
