Products to use before and after flat ironing?

Hi all! I just got an unexpected bonus at work and am going to splurge and get a Chi flat iron. What products do you recommend for using before and after the flat iron to keep the hair protected, shiny, and frizz free? Thanks so much!

Well, after a good deep conditioning, if you are going to wet wrap, I suggest a leave in (I use Biosynthesis Phinish and Design Essentials Therapy RX Leave in) and a good wrap foam such as Kera Care or The Jane Carter Solution, those are my favorites. If you are blow drying or air drying, I suggest just a good leave in. I don't add any additional products to my hair before flat ironing. You may find you will not need additional products after depending on the condition of your hair. However, on occasion I will use a light serum (aveda, design essentials silk essentials, the jane carter solution hair serum--->*this one is mostly light essential oils rather than silicone based*. You want to limit the amount of products you use on your hair to allow movement and a natural sheen. Clean ends and well conditioned hair should allow you to do this. I found that after I started taking care of my hair I was able to style with minimal products.

I use New Image Damage Free Thermal Active Conditioning Styler (heat protectant).

Good stuff, make the hair sOOOO soft.

Oh thanks! Is New Image Free available in most salons or drug stores? I have long hair, but am a complete moron when it comes to products. This site is just so friendly and helpful. Thanks!

I purchased mine from Sally Beauty Supply. I heard that the product was being discontinued. You may still be able to find some available in some of their stores.

Hey Allandra, I went to Sally's today and saw the New Image Damage Free. Like you said, it is discontinued, but they still had some on the shelves at discount. They were $.99 a bottle so I picked up two.

Oh wow! They're still selling that? I didn't know it. I bought 2 bottles a few months ago and it was .99 cents then too. I got the only ones left on the shelf. I'm going to go back to get a couple more! Maybe they've restocked.

CurlyCrly,

Sally said that they would sell it until it was gone. Keep in mind that I purchased mine some time last year. I have no idea if any of them have any left.

I'm a 4b and I was surprised that this worked so well. I got it for .99 at Sally's. My Sally's never knows what products its sells so I don't know if they plan to discontinue it or not.
