How long should hair be processed while getting a perm? My stylist uses some unidentifiable white goop in a bowl when she relaxes my hair, so I don't know what brand of relaxer it is or how long the process time should be. She's pretty fast and my hair is very thick, but it only takes her about 5 or 6 minutes for her to apply the relaxer over my roots 2 times and then smooth it with her fingers 2 or 3 times. The minute she's done smoothing it she rushes me over to the sink. Is 6 minutes long enough, or is my hair getting underprocessed? Is getting underprocessed bad?

If your hair comes out like you want it you aren't being underprocessed. Generally the upper limit is 20-25 minutes, so if she is doing less than that you should be good.
