When I oiled my scalp everyday (and it was OILLLLY everyday, like dripping :-\) removing my braids was so easy. I'm sure that's what did it. I was using MoeGro oil (EVOO, nettle, horsetail infusion).
1. spraying the braids not the root
2. shampooing frequently and conditioning to keep the hair from getting dry, dry hair is harder to remove from braids
3. Use braid spray spairingly. A lot of braid sprays are sticky for some reason and get into the root of the braid. When in braids I used a moisturizer like NTM silk touch leave-in. It wasn't too sticky and was great for my hair
4. I like the idea of oiling the roots, keeping them oiled and not full of braid spray should help
5. The day you take out your braids COVER them in conditioner. I used the conditioners I tried and didn't like. I would liberally cover my braids in the conditioner and then take the braids out. The conditioner will help and you will see a lot less breakage!
HTH!
