preventing dry ends

When I bun, my ends always end bushy,fuzzy when I take it down to redo. I moisurize and seal the heck out of my ponytail and this is what I get! Does'nt shed or break- just insanely dry!!! Any ideas?

dry bunning- I use HE LTR leave-in and seal w/castor oil

I've never used that leave-in, but I just looked up the ingredients and it seems to have a lot of things that could dry out your hair--i.e. three different kinds of alcohol, citric acid, and salt (which can help infuse more moisture, but you typically wanna rinse that out). I know a lot of ladies love this product but maybe that's what's disagreeing with your hair. If you don't have any other leave-ins you could try using one of your moisturizing or deep conditioners to moisturize your ends instead and then seal with the castor oil. I personally like Giovanni Direct Leave-in on my ends and then seal with an oil. I'm not really an expert on this stuff, I just joined the forum not too long ago, but that's my HTH!

Ends saturated in Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 Miracle Worker does wonders. It's only like 4 bucks at Sally's and is one of the best moisturizers EVER. It keeps my nape and ends (the two dryest parts of my hair) soft, moisturized, supple and smooooove

It works wonderfully for my entire family. I can't be without it

Yes, I do. A little Nuetrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch on the ends and a natural oil.

I'm not advanced yet like some of the others, but I wet bun, and I do thouroughly moisturize my ends then, and between washes every other day with the silk elements moisturizing cream, sealing with oil. I have fine hair, so too much product weighs it down, otherwise I'd moisturize with it everyday. Doing it too much makes my ends to soft, but yes, I moisturize when I bun

Those alcohols are actually fatty alcohols that are actually good for the hair. I had actually said the same thing you just said in a previous thread a while back, and someone corrected me.

Although I like the Herbal Essence conditioners, the HE LTR leave-in for some reason was drying to my hair so I stopped using it.

This is true. Both citric & the salt are too low on the list to make a big difference though. I'm guessing they are probably just in there to balance the ph.

Anyway, the LTR leave-in could be making your hair crunchy & dry b/c it is kind of proteiny.

Me too! That's why I wrote off bunning. I want to give a try again though.

I use HE LTR, but it agrees better with my wet hair versus on dry.

I like to use a dab of NTM Silk Touch sealed with natural oil daily as well. I left wet bunning alone because I was wetting my whole head. I may revisit and use Tiffers advise and just saturate the length.
