I plan on doing some pre shampoo treatment. I was wondering what were some of your techniques. Is this the same as an hot oil treatment? I wanted to try some homemade receipes if possible. Just wanted some suggestions that helped your hair. My hair is a type 4a if that helps.

Sabie, I am 4a as well and I basically use any of the so-so conditioners I have to do a pre-treatment. The purpose for me is basically to help detangle my hair prior to washing. HTH!

I throw warmed olive oil or coconut oil (shoot, sometimes both) in my hair and massage my scalp for a minute... sometimes even exercise... then i do my hair regimen.

I've used at different times:

1-Honey & olive oil
2-Coconut oil, sweet almond, castor, olive and avocado oils mixed in a bottle ( I keep this around to moisturize my ends sometimes- in Nov,Dec)
I got these from this site- Hair recipes

Oh, Jojoba oil at one point too
I do it the night before and sleep with a plastic cap and scarf or leave in same day but for 1 hr- 1.5...wake up and wash...I find my hair to be moisturized and strong...the shampoo process seems to be" less stripping" for me.

I use oils for my pre shampoo treatment too. I mix together combinations of: olive oil, castor oil (just a little) avocado oil, jojoba oil, shea butter and a touch of honey. If I am using this treatment on the weekend I put it on at night and sleep in it (with a plastic cap) if its during the week and I'm pressed for time I leave it on for a hour with a plastic cap and then shampoo. I love the way it makes my hair feel.

I save my coconut oil for when I air dry or do braid outs. It leaves incredible shine without the heavy feel.

I've used and liked Keracare Essential Oils as a pre-shampoo treatment. I apply it to dry hair and put on a plastic cap. I leave it on for about 30 min. while I do things around the house. I also used the same technique with LeKair Cholesterol.
