So here goes I am not really a morning person, right now as I plan to get a hold on life, I am working on my morning schedule and working prayer in. Unfortunately, a time has to be placed on it. I feel like 10 mins is not sufficient. I s thinking more like 30mins allocated.

Thoughts?

when i first started my walk, i remember trying to do 1 hour at 5am and whatever the famous tv preachers where saying was acceptable. but honestly i pray all day. I talk to God and listen for Him through out the day.

I think it is a great thing to set aside a prayer time as well as read the bible time, i believe the time will vary from day to day. Somedays i spend 45+ minutes listening to instructions from God and then He continues to talk as I go thru my day and other days not a single word.

How do you eat an 'elephant'?

Ummmmm, now what is Shimmie taling about here? :look:

Seriously, Angel, how do you eat an elephant? An elephant represents something huge that cannot be overlooked or bypassed.

The answer is 'one bite at a time'. It's admirable to go for the gold and to plan an hour or two or three, but God is only interested in 'You' just being there and not being a 'ritual' or a must do or a must be, but just 'there'.

So as you arise, just lie there embracing the moment that you are alive in Jesus and say to Him, Good Morning Jesus...what would you have me do.?

Just start thanking Him for all that He has done and all that He is and allow yourself to just flow in His praises which will gently guide you into His presence. Just one bite of time at a time. No hurries, no worries, no condemnations, no pressure, just one bite of time, at a time.

And you know what Love? Your embracing moments with the Lord will just naturally grow into more moments and more and more.

Jabez prayed: O' God, enlarge my territory, expand who you are in me...

Dear One... AnjelLuvsUBabe ... Just one bite of time at a time. Let the moments just flow. No condemnation for as gn1g shared above, she is constantly in prayer throughout the day and that's our focus and goal, all through the day, embracing the presence of God.

Hope this helps... :love3:

Love,
Shimmie

At a minimum, I spend about 30 minutes in the morning in prayer, but like gn1g, I talk to God throughout the day as well. I get so caught up in prayer sometimes that before I know it, an hour has passed!

I honestly don't think you should put a stringent time limit on prayer. I loathe waking up before 6, but I have to tell my flesh that spending time with with God is more important than one more hour of sleep. You should consider going to bed earlier so you can wake up in the morning.

If you must put a time limit on it, I would say 30 minutes is sufficient but continue talking to God periodically throughout the day. Also, put studying the bible in your routine as well. Prayer is even more powerful when you use scripture.

I think Shimmie said it best, don't put a time on it as you continue to be in the presence of God your time will increase. Focus first on just being in His presence and embracing all he has for you. It's not a marathon some days it may be 10 minutes some days one hours. Also like stated I talk to to him all day everyday.

Ita putting a time limit on it makes it seem like a chore rather than a privilege.
I used to (lol actually just last year) try to say OK an hour and just read the bible for an hour. I would barely remember anything which mean I wasn't applying it at all. But actually this week it occurred to me to actually study the bible not just read. So I take 1 to 2 chapters and really study them. See what the speaker of that chapter meant, see if I understand, agree, have questions, how I can improve in that area etc then I pray. It just happens that that takes about an hour but I don't say OK now hour now. You know?

With God its about quality and consistency. He wants your whole heart and If right now your time isn't managed to give X amount of time any time purposefully purifying your heart is more than nothing.

Thanks everyone for the replies means a lot. I to think putting a time on it is like a chore. and rarely do I remember anything when treated in that respect.

Been a Lil busy with new job will pray on morning prayer as a girl does love her sleep.

Getting up for 5:30 will be a challenge, shot still deciding on to get that time later still.

Angel... as an FYI.

Each night we have prayer as it counteracts the plans of satan and those who practice witchcraft who all work in darkness. Whatever their plans are for the following day and whatever has transpired in the current day, will be trumped by our nightly prayers.

In addition: God says in His Word, that He counsels us in the 'Night Seasons'. While we are sleeping, God is speaking to our souls. Each night in prayer, we ask God to open our hearts, our spirits to hear only His voice and His instruction and to protect and fill us with His wisdom ... renouncing that of the 'enemy' satan.

In the morning we awake and praise Him for all of His goodness and tender mercies towards us and we yield our hearts to be led and guided throughout the day and into the next with God's heart within our ear.

I hope this helps. Because you see, at night while we are sleeping the spirits of darkness, are already doing their work. Our nightly prayers, repels them.

We still pray in the morning...always, we can still set time aside to read and study, yet we study and become filled within the night.

You will not be stressed and convicted because of the morning rush. Your heart will be at peace and you will have already prepared your soul to be one with God.

Thanks for that Shimmie. I may have to revise, as the night would work so much better to reflect over day show gratitude. Then in am pray for day ahead. Etc

It's all coming together glad I asked

Amen, :yep: God is always 'Love' and Relationship'... He is never a ritual, as there is no love nor relationship in that. With our Father, there is no 'hit it and quit it'. Sooooo, relax and enjoy your special times with Him... Your Father in Heaven. Amen.

I don't think that there is a time limit or an "adequate" amount of time. Once you have that personal time with God, that is sufficient.

Personally, I do a full devotional in the morning beginning with Psalms, The Lord's Prayer, personal prayer and ending with my daily reading. But, I'm not there for 1 hour and I don't think that it has less impact than someone who devotes a longer time.

I remember in school, on mornings we had a 1 hour devotional that was basically an entire church service and on Wednesdays it was followed by Bible Study. Those were the days :)
