-Dont be afraid to ask questions. You are new here so being ignorant towards hair care isn't a shameful thing.

-Its okay to ask about your hair type:look:

-Its okay to start threads even if people ignore you or tell you to use the search feature.

-Its ok to bump your thread. Someone will give you the right
answer.....eventually:look:

-If you wash your hair often or if you get caught in the rain, your hair won't fall out:lol:

-Protein and moisture balance is one of the main keys to good hair growth

-Keep you hair, especially your ends moisturized to retain growth

- Cowashing aka conditioner washing is great method for dry hair especially for naturals.

-Detangle from tip to root with your fingers then use wide too comb

-Relaxed heads: Trying stretching your relaxer over the usual time (4-6 weeks) Take it slow. If you usually relax you hair every 6 weeks next time try 7 then 8 so on and so forth. Doing this will help you better manage your NG ( New growth)

-Relaxed head: give yourself a protein treatment before relaxing

-You MUST use a neutralizing shampoo after you wash out the relaxer cream

-Transitioners (going from relaxed to natural) Be patient:lol: Take your time to detangle. Remember you are dealing with 2+ textures.

-Cutting your hair often will not help it grow. Your hair is not a bush. But trimming your hair can help keep your hair from tangling and it also prevents split ends.

-With that being said you dont have to keep your hair trimmed/bluntcut. Yes, uneven ends are the less desirable but just because they are uneven doesnt mean your hair is unhealthy or that you have split ends.

- Don't ever in your LHCF life use the term 'Good hair' or 'Bad Hair'

- Protective styling it a great way to retain growth. Bunning is a very popular method. So is braiding, wearing wigs, weaving etc. Anything that keep your hair from friction. Remember while doing PS keep your hair moisturized.

-DCing aka Deep conditioning for a minimum of 20 mins. Hair follicles take up to 20 mins to open.

-After DCing wait 10-15 mins to wash out the conditioner. This allows your hair to cool down so and your hair follicles can close.

Post your tips:)

Qualitee I think you have it covered. I will post some tips, if I can think of some more.

Not really a hair tip, but more so a warning. Please don't try to buy every product that is raved about. You will go broke!:lachen:

Have patience and be consistent. It will take time to reach your goals, but it's soooo worth it!

Do your own research. Don't take just one person's word as gold.

Look for ladies with your hair type. Products and techniques that work for type 2 hair, is not gonna behave the same on type 4 hair.

My 2 centavos - Do your own hair. Don't rely on salons to keep your hair healthy. They're only there to make money, not provide help on your healthy hair journey.

For me, keeping it as simple as possible and not jumping on every bandwagon has helped me retain the most growth.

i'm a newbie and i soooo needed this thread, bc i have jumped on ever hair product bandwagon there is....and my pockets are screaming and threating to rip from my pants and leave me forever...lol! i'm transitioning and im have a hard time dealing with the two textures especially with shredding and my hair feels weak, like without any real effort i can pull it right out my head.....i can use all the help i can get. TIA!!

Try black tea rinses for the shedding. Here's a link that should help. There is a youtube video in this thread that gives more info on black tea rinses. Make sure you follow up with a moisturizing DC.

Incorporate items into your regi slowly so that you can know if your hair likes/dislikes that product. If you do a major overhaul in one setting, you won't know which items your hair likes/dislikes. (wish I learned this sooner)

As previously mentioned, avoid bandwagons and don't buy up everything that is raved about. (wish I learned this sooner)

What works for someone's hair won't necessarily work for yours. (wished I learned this sooner).

You ladies have it all covered. (again, wish I had learned all the things posted here sooner).

The sooner you adhere to what's posted within this thread, the sooner you're hair will flourish.

Thanks so much mrs verde....funny i recently went out and got black tea and plan on trying it this week.....and i have def cut back on buying hair products, so far i have used brown butter beauty and i love it....it helped a lot with detangling and dryness....do you have any suggestions on how to use it?

There are so many different and beautiful choices you can make for your hair- relaxed, relax-bone straight, texlax, texturized, natural, BKT, heat-trained. But its important to have a goal for your hair or you may end up going back and forth with these options and never gain the length you want.

For example transitioning to natural just to go back to relax and transition again to relax again. Its a vicious cycle.

Overnight success is unrealistic. Patience, TLC, and consistency will take you far.

Use the least amount of heat as possible to create styles. Heat (dry heat like flat irons, curling irons, and blow dryers) are not the enemy, but neither are they your friend. Try not to let it touch your hair more than once a week. It sucks the moisture from your hair and you need moisture to retain length.

I just bumped msa's newbie manual thread, but here's the link:

Also I'd like to add:

--Don't be afraid to post pics, just be sure you 1) Have all personal body parts covered, 2) Clean up your area before taking the pic, 3) If you don't want to clean up, at least crop out the dirty area. We don't want to see your undies and other things thrown across your un-made bed! :lachen:

--for relaxed heads - don't comb dry newgrowth. This only promotes breakage. Comb your newgrowth wet or drenched with conditioner.

--If you go to a stylist, speak up! He/She is working for you! Don't be afraid to tell them what you want and make sure they stick to it. If they don't, find another stylist.

Spend a day reading. There is so much information on these boards it is insane.

If you do not have a digital camera, don't post about the miraculous results you have gotten (either by product, technique, or stylist). We like pichas round here.

Ask questions, no matter how snarky some ladies get.

Do not jump on every bandwagon. You will go broke. Actually don't jump on most bandwagons.

Throw away the black rat tail comb, moisture max, oil sheen, pink oil moisturizer, and black pro gel.

I used the bolded for almost a decade! My hair was so dry and crackly, but I never thought it was this crap that was doing it. When I found LHCF and stopped using it, my hair "miraculously" retained moisture.

All the conditioner in the world won't help my hair if i don't protect my ends and treat it with extra care. hhj

Know what you are putting in your hair. I suffered a lot of breakage from excessive protein usage before I found this board. Every single product I owned (shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, serum, etc) was full of protein and I had no idea.

Also, always follow a protein treatment with a deep conditioner.
