In the past i have been doing the Crown and Glory method for growing my hair (growafrohairlong.com), instead of using the individual braid method i had cornrows put in... the only thing is the new growth is already evident after only a short while so i always ended up getting it done every two weeks to keep it new looking.... my hair had grown tremendously but my tight braider messed up my temple areas.... they are growing in great now but i want to start back with the crown and glory method, only i want to use individual braids instead of cornrows like the hair lady suggested... i want to keep my hair like this for two months at a time.... my question is this..... the hair lady said if you want to touch up the new growth after two months of deep conditioning the hair.... she only washed her hair once a week though..... after i'm out of braids, i wash my hair at least 3 times a week (alternating shampoo and deep conditioning washes, and just conditioner washes), do you think i could just go a month of this before getting my touch up? and how long do you think i should wait after my touch up that i should get my hair back in braids? what kind of styles could i get without using heat in the meantime and in between time of relaxers and braiding? Thanks in advance.....

HMMM...
this is sort of difficult. You know... I've been thinking about this crown and glory method because I've kept cornrows for almost 2 years now and I just recently discovered her website. I have the same questions that you have, but heres a solution. When you take out your braids is your hair strong or is it dry and brittle?? If its dry and brittle then a month of washing and conditioning your hair should be good before you get your perm. Another thing that I was thinking about doing was while I'm in cornrows, I still wash and condition my hair, but I keep them in 4-5 weeks. For me my hair grows faster in cornrows because the first week and half I receive new-growth. So I was thinking doing that and using the right leave-ins and strengthners, then taking my cornrows out, then 3-4 days later getting a perm. While I have the perm I would deep condition, do protein treatments and wash my hair 2-3 times a week. After
6-8 weeks of the perm I would put some more cornrows back in do the same steps, take them out and then get
another relaxer and then so on.... and so on.
This is how I'm going to try it this time and I'll see how it works.

That sounds like a plan!!!! I know whenever i take out my braids, besides the average (which seems like a lot because it's been up 2+ weeks) i have strong hair.... I guess it's because i keep it moisturized with WGO, Infusium 23 Leave In conditioner, and Braid spray.... i need to get into the habit of washing my hair while in braids, cuz that's something i don't do.... what method do you use when washing your braids? have you achieved alot of growth with the braids? i've been using a protein conditioner once a month and that's kept my hair strengthened.... Well let me know okay

God bless

Now.... I just finished reading her page and it says do not put any relaxer on your hair after you take out your braids fot at least 2 months. Now my only problem with that is managing the hair while its out of the braids. I mean 2 months is a long time with just washing your hair and not actually transitioning. So.... I'm going to just do what I had written about getting my perm a few days afterwards and caring for my hair with major treatment with the relaxer. I'll try that for this time and I'll surely post my results. I also use WGO, Infusium 23 and a braid spray. I talked to my stylist and she said that my hair was very strong. So it all depends. Her methods (( Robin from growafrohairlong.com)) for washing braids are really good. 1-2 times out of the week I dilute my shampoo and put a little bit in a cup of water and I mix it until there is no visible shampoo. Then I use the cup and I pour it all over my head to get a good lather. But, at least one time out the week I just wash my cornrows all over with the shampoo itself. Oh yeah... after I shampoo I at least try to put some time of leave-in ((infusium 23 diluted or nexxus headdress)). Now washing my braids frequently like this might cause my cornrows to become vey frizzy and messy, but it does grow my hair well. Next week I'm going to start using this new shampoo called FAST (fortified amino scalp therapy). I've been using the Aubrey Organics GPB, Nexxus Keraphix(every 2 weeks), and Cream of Nature Shampoo. So when I get my perm this time I'm going to see how it works. I'm really determined on growing my hair.

You really have to do what is best for your hair. It is not a rule that is set in stone. I think waiting two months after braids to relax is a little extreme. I just came out of braids and I will relax in 2-3 weeks. If you hair is strong it will be just fine. Good luck on your hair growing! Keep us updated on how the FAST works for you!

Hello I totally agree with you "dontspeakdefeat"!!
I mean 2 months is a long time. So I might just get a perm a week after I take my cornrows out. I mean if my hair is strong then it shouldn't be a problem.
