ok so i took my micros out and i was putting my hair in plaitss because im not washing my hair until i get my steamer. as i was braiding it i noticed my ends are much thicker than the rest of my hair, i cant even keep my braids from unraveling!:wallbash: has this happened to you and what does it mean? are those ends damaged? i thought the ends were the thinnest part of your hair or is that only when your relaxed??

My ends never stay when plaited/braided. I have to secure with rubber bands. My ends sometimes feel poofy and brittle. Haven't really narrowed down why that is.

I've always wondered the same... when I dust/trim my ends, that's what I feel for - the poofy part - then clip it :look:

Same here! My ends are more brittle than they are poofy. I did baking soda rinses, dc, acv rinse, protein treatments, etc. nothing seems to make them less brittle or not brittle at all. Glad someone else was having this problem maybe we can help each other out.

I am having this problem too my ends are so thick and poofy when I am sectioning my hair to wash in big braids, they almost always unravel

I am going to the salon for a hair assessment to see if she can help narrow it down and I'll let you know what she says. I'm 9 weeks post and usually relax every 6 weeks. This is my first stretch and my stylist is against it...she thinks my hair is doing weird things because of the stretch -- different story, wrote about it in a different thread so I won't taint this thread with that hair issue.

My acne has flared as of late so I started up'd my wash frequency to every week versus every 2 weeks and I've been trying my hand at air drying rather than roller setting. I noticed my ends started to change in texture when I altered my routine. Maybe the increased frequency of shampooing has my ends thirsty for more moisture? protein? I dunno. Just confused.

good to know i'm not alone!! i just want to make sure they arent damaged. i dont want to cut if its not necessary

Mine are like that unless I band my hair. IMO my ends get poofy because of the way they dry. Banding makes them dry more compact for me.

I watched a Kimmaytube video earlier today and she was talking about how her ends were always poofy before she started taking note of the the ph of her hair. She said that our hair needs some acidity to close the cuticle (which is the reason why the hair is poofy) so a good range of ph for our hair is from 4 to 5.5. she then went on to say that once she started using her homemade leave in condish (it has a ph of about 4) her ends stopped being poofy. She tested it out on herself before she shared the recipe. :) The video for the recipe is on her youtube channel but here is the link for the video i was referring to.

I hope this helps you guys!! :D:yep:

thanks so much!! i will def try her leave in condish!!

Do you baggy your ends? My ends used to be dry/poofy and I used to confused that with damaged end and *gulp* would trim. Now, I try to baggy overnight at 2-3x a week. The ends took a complete turn for the better within a week.
