Poisenous Dominican Conditioners?

Ok, so my colleague brings me some conditioners back from the DR. One of the conditioners is called 'La Bomba'. Being that I never heard anything about it on this site, I decide to do a google to see what the reviews are from the other hair sites.

This is what I found:

I remember some one here on the board saying that La Bomba is the hot new Dom Conditioner but I don't remember who it is. The member here has a site that sells Dom products. She said she can't keep La Bomba in stock.

There are no Hair Products on that list...

Yes there is. Go to 'Edit' then 'Find' and type in 'bomba'. It's there.

Only thing I see is that la Bomba has a mislabeling problem.

The shampoo is said to have a labelling problem as well, but isn't listed as poisonous.

Thanks Kiwi. I wish their 'speak' was more clear. What do they consider 'customary use' that might render it poisonous?

I dont use them because many of them have traces of lead in them.

Maybe I'm slow but when I read it, it does look like (for the ones that have the Poisonous label next to them) that they are saying that it may contain a substance which may injur ppl even if used as directed (paraphrasing).

That's how I read it too.

It looks to me like it's potentially poisonous and has a labeling problem.

I once bought a Domincan conditioner and brought it home. There was one ingredient I didn't recognize so I looked it up. It was poisonous, skull and crossbones and all. I decided to pass on that one. At least it wasn't too expensive.

There are bad things in some American and European conditioners as well. I guess we all just have to decide what we are willing to use on our hair and what we aren't.

Some cosmetics definately contain poisonous chemicals, they are used in small doses.

I went to the web site and I did see both the conditioner and the shampoo. The conditioner is the one that said it was poisonous. The information was from a report done in april. I pulled the report from may and the La Bomba is not listed on there at all. I called the company ibeautyny and spoke with Jackie and she was very nice and said that she had not heard about that and she does use the La Bomba line. She got on the FDA web site with me and searched and found a conditioner that she uses as well.

I am interested in ordering the whole La Bomba line but I am unsure if it is safe now. Has anyone discovered anything new on this line that is still unsafe. Let me know. TIA

It is very scary. I am glad I came across this post but kind of think of it, I don't know if everything I use on my hair is safe, I guess I should start looking into that. My Domincan stylist uses the La Bomba leave in and it makes my hair not only appear fuller but so bouncy. I want to make sure it is not causing anything deadly to develop on my scalp or something.

I've tried DR products but my hair just hates them. Maybe that is a warning sign. A dermatologist once said that products made overseas are not subject to FDA regulations and may contain toxic materials. Now my hair loves Salerm 21 but that is made in Spain.

Good Nite! I just got finished ordering Capilo cinnamin and sole shampoo & conditioner and Miss Key 10 en 1 ! I wonder if they have anything toxic in them? I going to check it out and email them at peloBonito! I think I might try to order natural products or make them myself. Anyone kno where I could get Aubrey Oragnics cheap?

From my understanding and personal experience, I believe that some Dominican conditioners are more harmful than others. For example, I ordered Sedal shampoo and conditioner, and they had formaldehyde (the preservative) in them. I threw them away ASAP; however, I have been using Nacidit regularly. While Nacidit products do contain parabens, the remainder of the ingredients look pretty harmless. I do have a question though. A lot people here use products that contain DMDM hydantoin. This is a chemical that releases a formaldehyde like substance to preserve XYZ product. I wonder if the Dominicans are just not as slick and call it like it is whereas we have this fancy-more innocuous name. Any takers?

I'll bite...You are absolutely correct! Its no different than a company stating a "no-lye' relaxer is "no-lye", THAT is the biggest lie as calcium hydroxide IS a derative of sodium hydroxide, or hair color "for men", well there is no gender in hair...anyway you get my point. The beauty industry is NOT the only place that this happens, though. I digress.

Companies will and do wise up to us savvy consumers and change names or use more scientific name. With that said not ALL derivitives are bad and some chemicals when mixed with other chemicals change their properties...anyway I'm no scientist. I understand what I'm saying, do you??

There is only one hair product on that list and its from miss keyes. It said it has a color additive problem. The others are all food items which is why pesticide keeps coming up. Alot of this stuff has to go through customs when it comes up. I think if it was crazy harmful...they wouldn't be allowed in the country

This issue definitely goes beyond Dominican products. I believe those with concerns should look at the ingredients on the products we use, and look them up for any safety concerns to be better educated.

Here's a web site I stumbled on, and boy was it scary. I have to ask myself how seriously I should look at products with parabens, etc.
