Poems...

I love poems; inspirational, thought=provoking, wisdom-imparting, (...you name it!) poems. And thought it would be nice if we had a thread dedicated to beautiful poems.

I'll start with one of my favorite poems. I learned it when I was 13 or 14 years old but never forgot it. It came to me today out of the blue and I couldn't keep it to myself. So I hope someone appreciates it as much as I do:

IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE

If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two,

If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you'd do?

Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honored Guest,

And all the food you'd serve to Him would be the very best,

And you would keep assuring Him you're glad to have Him there,

That serving Him in your own home is joy beyond compare.

But, when you saw Him coming, would you meet Him at the door?

With arms outstretched in welcome to your Heavenly Visitor?

Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in?

Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they'd been?

Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard?

And wish you hadn't uttered that last loud hasty word?

Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?

Could you let Jesus right in, or would you rush about?

And I wonder if the Savior spent a day or two with you,

Would you go right on doing the things you always do?

Would you go right on saying the things you always say?

Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?

Would your family conversation keep up it's usual pace?

And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace?

Would you sing the songs you always sing and read the books you read?

And let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed?

Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you plan to go?

Or would you maybe change your plans for just a day or so?

Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends?

Or would you hope they'd stay away until His visit ends?

Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on?

Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?

It might be interesting to know the things that you would do,

If Jesus Christ in person came to spend some time with you.

No Time To Pray

By K. J. Koshy

I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.

So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.

All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Christ to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.

No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need
But at last the time, the time to die.

I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.

God looked into his book and said
"Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time"

Disappointment --
His Appointment

lnylrose.gif

"Disappointment -- His Appointment"
Change one letter, then I see
That the thwarting of my purpose
Is God's better choice for me.
His appointment must be blessing,
Tho' it may come in disguise,
For the end from the beginning
Open to His wisdom lies.

graylt2.gif

"Disappointment -- His Appointment"
Whose? The Lord, who loves me best,
Understands and knows me fully,
Who my faith and love would test;
For, like loving earthly parent,
He rejoices when He knows
That His child accepts, UNQUESTIONED,
All that from His wisdom flows.

graylt2.gif

"Disappointment -- His Appointment"
"No good thing will He withhold,"
From denials oft we gather
Treasures of His love untold,
Well He knows each broken purpose
Leads to fuller, deeper trust,
And the end of all His dealings
Proves our God is wise and just.

"Disappointment -- His Appointment"
Lord, I take it, then, as such.
Like the clay in hands of potter,
Yielding wholly to Thy touch.
All my life's plan in Thy moulding,
Not one single choice be mine;
Let me answer, unrepining --
"Father, not my will, but Thine."

This was inspired by a discussion I had with some friends

I don’t wanna be a wifey.
God’s already wifed me.
He’s my king I’m his bride,
He’s the head of my life, see.
Ready for Him to change my name.
And if to you it’s all the same,
Then you know it’s not a game.
Wife and wifey ain’t the same.

Someone Like No Other by Me

Isn't it so amazing to know that there is SOMEONE who loves you no matter what--unconditionally, :iloveyou:
No matter what you have done wrong, you will be forgiven.

There is a love that has nothing to do with material goods,
There is SOMEONE like no other who only requires your love exclusively in order to be a part of your life.

It can be a bit scary at times to know that SOMEONE loves you enough to wait patiently until you are ready to do things right,
Don't be afraid, instead have courage.

Whenever you are ready, all you have to do is open your heart and say, "Jesus is Lord", (Romans 10:9)
Then you will be saved.

Take HIS hand, GOD's unchanging hand,
Love, honor, put faith in HIM, and HE will show you the desire of your heart.

He will take you under HIS masterful wing,
He will always be there for you like no other. :Rose:

JESUS HEARD YOU WHEN YOU PRAYED LAST NIGHT

Jesus Heard when you prayed last night,
He talked with God about you;
Jesus was there, when you fought your fight,
He is going to bring you through.

Jesus knew when you shed those tears,
You did not weep alone;
For the burden you thought toO heavy to bear,
He made it His very own.

Jesus himself was touched by that trial,
Which you could not understand;
Jesus stood by as you almost fell
And lovingly grasped your hand.

Jesus cared when you bore that pain,
Indeed He bore it too.
He felt each pain, each ache in your heart,
Because of His love for you

Jesus was grieved when you doubted His love,
But He gave you grace to go on;
Jesus rejoiced as you trusted Him,
The most Trustworthy One.

His presence shall ever be with you,
No need to be anxious or fret;
Wonderful Lord, He'll be there all the time,
He has never forsaken you yet!

MY NAME IS I AM

I was regretting the past

and fearing the future.
Suddenly my Lord was speaking:
"My name is I Am." He paused.

I waited. He continued,
"When you live in the past,
with its mistakes and regrets,
it is hard. I am not there
My name is not I Was.

When you live in the future,
with its problems and fears,
it is hard. I am not there.
My name is not I Will Be.

When you live in this moment,
it is not hard. I am here.
My name is I Am."

Just like the Israelite people, we too are a chosen people, because God sent Jesus Christ into the world to be our savior. We are God's people. Christ died for us.
I think this poem says it well:

I may be young; I may be old,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be educated; I may be unlettered,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be black; I may be white,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be rich; I may be poor,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be heavy, I may be thin,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be married; I may be divorced or single,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be successful; I may be struggling ,
But I am somebody, For I am God's Child.
I may be a sinner; I may be a saint,
But I am somebody, For Jesus is my Savior.
I am God's Child.

Loving God, help me to more fully understand my purpose of being your child. In Jesus name, Amen.

TAKE TIME TO PRAY

I got up early one morning,
And rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish,
I didn’t have time to pray.

Troubles just tumbled about me,
And heavier came each task.
"Why doesn’t God help me?" I wondered.
He answered, "You didn’t ask."

I tried to come into God’s presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"Why, child, you didn’t knock."

I wanted to see joy and beauty,
But the day toiled on gray and bleak.
I wondered why God didn’t show me.
He said, "You didn’t seek."

I woke up early this morning,
And paused before entering the day.
I had so much to accomplish
That I had to take time to pray.

A Brand New Start
by Jill Lemming

God sometimes brings us to a place
where answers can't be found...
Where we cannot see tomorrow,
for confusion all around.

Yet deep inside we realize
that all things work for good...
Even times when we've been wounded
and we feel misunderstood.

Don't dwell on the injustice
and stay focused on God's heart...
Find forgiveness and go on,
you can make a brand new start.

A Brighter Tomorrow
by Ellen Bailey

There will be a brighter tomorrow someday
I'll look up and the clouds will move away
And when I hear that trumpet's loud blast
I will know that Jesus has returned at last.

There will be a brighter tomorrow someday
When I'll see Jesus in His glorified array
All God's children will be taken up in the air
Others will be confessing and saying prayers

There will be a brighter tomorrow someday
I'll be watching, waiting; I won't be afraid
It will be a great Heaven going home time
And I pray to Jesus no one gets left behind.

Jesus, My Friend
by Laela

Jesus told me he's my friend,
Oh, yes, he told me so.
His presence keeps me focused,
as in Him I develop and grow

Oh, how I Love my Savior,
That he loves me just for me;
To know that I was on his mind
When he went to Calvary

It's not a Love that I must Keep
But one to give away
To share with who receives Him
As I press on day, by day
