I noticed a lot of ladies are using these Indian oils. How did you first discover them? What do you like about them? What do you not like? How do you use them? Gratzie!

I first discovered Amla oil from reading about ladies on the board using it as a pre-poo and how it made their hair dark, shiny and beautiful. I found Vatika oil at my local Indian grocery and I've been loving it ever since then.

I prefer using alma powder in my henna mix or making a paste out of it with water rather than using Dabur Amla oil only because the oil is rather stinky, while the powder smells great. It darkens my hair a little, conditions it well and makes it soft.

Vatika oil is my new love. It's coconut oil enriched with herbs and essential oils. It makes my hair soft and shiny and since I've been applying it to my edges regularly I've gotten a really surprising amount of of growth in an area that was looking pretty sparse. I started a thread not too long ago about my experience with Indian oils/henna/amla that you can find here: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=112868

HTH!

I discovered amla oil when one of the ladies at the LA meet & greet brought it to the meeting to swap. It was one of they many items I took home that night and put in my cabinet.

Weeks passed before I even considered using it, but I was SO happy when I did. My hair felt stronger and softer after using it. I've used it in conjunction with a cheapie con for a pre-poo or in addition to a heavier con for DCing. Either way, it's been great, and now I'm on the hunt for more in my area.

I took one look at DLewis' hair and went running to the nearest indian store where I live in Manhattan:lol: . I had stopped using oils a long time ago and prepooing with Vatika and applying Amla Lite really helped my hair. Still have a long way to go but these are in my *cough* regimen (regimen, what regimen?) for life.

I cook lots of Sri Lankan food which keeps me in the Indian/Pakastani store. Being a hair person, I always mosey on over to the hair care section when I'm there. I found amla, vatika, and another Dabur oil called Anmol not really knowing anyone else was using them. I knew essential oils were a big thing, but Indian oils weren't discussed as much.

As far as likes and dislikes, I can't take the smell of Dabur amla--*soiled nursing home bedsheets*, but the Vatika and Anmol are my favorites. The Dabur Anmol is pure coconut oil-- where Vatika is a coconut oil mix. The Anmol melts easier and is smoother than the vatika, but I love and use them both. I have been eyeing their Jasmine Oil, but I already need to scale back my operation.

I grew up with a lot kids of Indian heritage and those are some of the products they used on their hair. I just happened to nostalgically pick up a bottle of Amla and Coconut oil because the smells reminded me of home and my childhood; the owner of the store schooled me on the benefits aside from just making myself homesick. :) And that's how I got here.

I start using Alma and Vatika Oil about a month ago and I am in love with these two. Yes ladies I can take the smell of the Alma Oil...hey I used MTG with no chaser:lol: but what made me use these oils was navesgeda (sp)? and dlewis...I love this stuff it makes my hair shiny, soft, and stronger. These are definitely my staple oils...in fact they are my only oils being that I never used oils before these. I'm going to get the anomol and the jasmine oil and whatever else they have. I just wish I could find the Vatika Oil in the big bottle:)

I have been using the Dabur Vatika oil in pre-poos and deep conditioning and the same goes for the Amla. I discovered these during my schooling on all things related to henna and Indian haircare. I love how the Amla conditions and makes my hair darker too, even if it does have a "funny" smell. :look: The Vatika is an excellent all-purpose oil. Sometimes I use even use it to seal in moisture from my leave-ins when I have the presence of mind to melt it first!

I just bought the Jasmine oil today. I love the smell of this oil. I don't know how it works yet but i'll let you guys know as soon as i use it. Does everyone really not like the smell of amla oil? Personally, i love the smell. It's strong but it helps cover the smell of the MTG which is a lot worse.
