I am just not quite ready to go from below bra strap hair to shoulder length hair and even shorter in curly state. So, please remind me why I'm transitioning and what I can do to get through this "ready to pick up the scissors right now and cut but know I will regret it tomorrow" phase.

NO HAIRLOVE!!!! BACK AWAY FROM THE SCISSORS, GIRL!!!!

You need a reminder not to cut? Look at my album and see how short my hair is!!!

Seriously, you are transisitoning because you want to keep your length. Besides, scab hair is quite a shocker! Nah, you don't want to deal with that yet. Trust me!

Don't do it!!!!

You've told us a million times how much you don't like your face with short hair...

I'm sure it's lovely, but it's a matter of preference and yours is longer hair. You also won't have as much versatility with a shorter cut and when you DO blow your hair out (which you know from your Egyptian salon experience in December works REALLY well) you may miss the length.

Good luck whatever you decide.

please you can do it -- treat yourself to a nice spiral set or something so that you can see what your hair looks like at this length after you transition

BACK AWAY FROM THE SCISSORS! Your hair looks so good and I can tell it's very precious to you so why chop it off? You're doing so well with your transition, keep up the good work

Please, don't do it hairlove!!
You said it yourself, you'll regret it the next day! Just be patient, it's just a phase anyway.

Thanks guys....I'm trying. I washed my hair for the 2nd time today b/c I keep trying new products to get the look I want...well, really the feel. I'm becoming a pj again even though I have tons of products. I want to get through this phase and get some regular products. My wallet can't take this.

I think I am going to hit Cost Cutters this weekend and get rid of a couple of inches. {Sigh}

I just checked out your album, and your hair looks beautiful as usual. Why would you want to cut it? Your hair looks fine. Please don't cut it Hairlove!

Hairlove,

Leave the scissor alone, girl. Try this instead (it may shock you back to yourself), go to the BSS and get a curly wig(you don't even have to buy, just try it on), look in the mirror and say "Am I really ready for this?".

Once it's done, it's done and you won't be able to take it back. It also may (I doubt it mind you, but it is always possible) tempt you to relax again if you don't feel comfortable with short hair (shrinkage may bring your hair to shoulder length only if it's totally curly).

having said that, think about it this way as well. You are only six months from what I think was your initial goal in terms of transitioning.

You can make there

Well you've been transitioning for a long time! I haven't even been at it for 1 year and I'm itching to cut it. But what I did was take a strand of hair behind my ear (one that isn't noticeable if I put it in a bun) and cut the permed part off. It is about 1 1/2 inches curled up but stretches to my neck. Since I hadn't planned on blowdrying my hair or anything like that, I see that my hair is not long enough for me to chop just yet.

Nipped that urge right in the bud!

LOL nurseN98...this is what I keep seeing, too. I have a whole section of hair that broke off due to my bad relaxer so I can do the same...actually, it's pretty long stretched. A few inches below my shoulders but the back seems to be growing faster than the front. The very font only comes down to my nose and the sides almost shoulderlength, crown below ears. I still would like more growth. It's been a bad day but I'm holding on. Thanks to everyoen for the encouragement.

Cutting it to your shoulders may be a little drastic,

but an inch or so may pacify your urges. You're doing a great job.

Yes, I am just going to do a couple of inches -- not ready for shoulder-length yet.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

i wouldnt cut to shoulder lenght,, i think u can cut to where ur natural hair stops in the back, is it underarm length yet? cause that would be less drastic.

Silvergirl, Yes, I would say it's about underarm length in the back. TODAY (notice I said today), my plan is to get about 2-3 inches trimmed in August/September to right above my bra strap (length I had in December), and then another inch or two in October, then the rest in December. My plan right now is to go for a layered look once all natural in order to keep the length in the back.
