Please Can You Recommend A Natural Hair Stylist/salon In The Dmv For A Blow Dry And Trim?

I've been trying to get on Reniece's schedule for years now and no luck so I'm moving on from that dream...

I've never had my hair professionally trimmed/cut before and I need it badly. I have very fine 4c hair that is very prone to heat damage. I took down locs after a year, and it destroyed by hair in the most fragile parts... Some parts of my hair are MBL/WSL... others are like SL/APL especially in the front and middle.

Please can you all recommend someone for me to go to especially in Maryland? I want a wash, DC, blow dry and trim from someone who is really careful about preserving the integrity of natural hair.

@nyeredzi can you help?

@JudithO It's nice to see you around! I remember you from way back.

I'm also in the DMV and would love to hear if you find someone who can be trusted. Best of luck with the search.

I'm still around these parts sometimes.... How've you been? I too hope I can find a trusted person!

There's a natural woman at work I was just talking to about this. She likes her person, who is in DC. I can't remember who she said , but I can ask her again. I work with a lot of naturals, so can ask around for you. I never go to anyone but Reniece, so it won't be my personal experience.

I’d appreciate it... thank you!

I just want a 1X a yr blow dry and trim stylist. Someone who cares more about my hair than the style ... hell I don’t even want a style... walking out of there with cornrows!

BTW @nyeredzi how is your hair looking nowadays?
My hair's okay, thank you. It's actually less dense than it used to be. That's okay, it makes finger detangling actually possible most of the time, whereas before it would just take too long to do that. It's in good condition, too. I asked someone today about a recommendation, but she doesn't go to the salon. I can't even remember who it was I was talking to at work about this at work, there are so many naturals there, and I only talked to her once. I'll have to stalk the cubicles, peering inside of every one to see if the person looks familiar.

One of my coworkers at my other office has a recommendation for a braider, if you were interested in that. But I'll have to find the person who recommended her DC stylist.

Damn good condition? You know you can't just say that and not post a picture! Also, you took down your YT videos .... I used to drool over your hair girl...

I have a good hair braider here in Pittsburgh... if you get a good tip on a great hair preserving natural stylist, please hook a sister up!

I've gone to Ayanna at Outbar. She styled me in a cute flat twist updo for my recent vacation and I'm goingback soon for regular twists. She hasn't cut my hair, but we chatted about it and she is Deva certified. She was very gentle with my hair and listened when I mentioned that a flat twist was tight (took it down and redid it). Actually she did give me a light blow dry to stretch my hair a little and that was gentle too.

Her IG account is on there and has good pics.

She has a line of products too. I might try them in the future. I can't remember the name right now.

Her whole thing is to get you in and out, and she does it. You are the only person being serviced and you have her total attention. She's in a salon suite. It's a building full of similar suites for stylists, barbers, and esthetician. The suites are private and she has a chill setup.

She's in Lanham (maybe really Glenarden) by the black Wegmans. I was so excited when I saw the Wegmans and finally got to visit it. :lachen:

Anyways I really liked her and I'm happy to go back. My earlier curly cut and color this summer was in DC and cost a grip so I'm giving you the reasonable option lol. I liked the stylist but whew at the price.

Eta: She does chat with you about your hair routine and the state of your hair.

Have no recommendations but had to bust out laughing when you said the bolded. :lachen:The one at Woodmore?? Do I need to frequent this location more? :look:

I go to the one in Crofton since I'm in that area more often than Glenarden.

Oh girl yes you need to go. It's the Woodmore one. I love seeing all of us there lol.

They had a jazz band when I went on a Friday evening a couple of months ago. The crowd was older but cool.

They have a lot of stations where you can order food and a huge seating area.

There's some decent shopping in the centre so you can kill two birds with one stone. I also went to the BSS there. It's huge and Asian owned. But they were polite and no one followed me around the store or looked at me crazy.

Thanks sis and will do!! #hotgirlfall :look:

@JudithO I couldn't find the women I originally got the recommendation from, but I did ask another woman who always has a nice dye job. She's a natural as well. I asked her if the person was gentle as well and she said they were. Her name is Carmen and she is at Velvet Waves.
