Can someone please share what is the difference between these two dryers? I see the 512 is much cheaper. Is it smaller? Not as hot? What is with the huge price difference.

I posted in the other thread but my understanding of the differences is that the 512 sets by high, low, medium and the 514 sets my degree 50, 60,70. Also the 514 has an indicator that tells you when the dryer reaches the desired temperature. There may be a wattage difference too, but Im not sure. I do believe they are the same size.

all these people have pibbs and only one response. i would would really appreciate more responses because i've read several threads but there is no definitive answer. some people say that the hood size is different. i need a big hood.

i want to fit the large light green three inch rollers under there that is why i want to know about hte size difference.
I can fit those under my 512 I only use those in the back and the black ones in the front though. I don't know if that makes a difference. I think I could fit all green under there but I'm not sure.

I have the 512 and i love it....I don't put it at the highest cause is too hot for me... same size tho...I fit with the black 2 1/5" rollers all over.

I had the same question a year ago when I ordered my 514. I think they are the same size, but at the time I sent an e-mail to Pibbs and they sent me a note which compared the different models based on features and sizes. Unfortunately I don't have it any more, but I'm sure if you send them an e-mail they'll help you. I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase :-).

TextureTresses, I believe there is no difference in hood diameter and depth between the Pibbs. It is probably difficult to enter under he Pibbs with a full set of 3 inches rollers. The issue is not the hood diameter it self, but the entrance through the rotating visor which does not correspond to half of the hood unlike some old fashion hoods
From visual comparisons, I think my own dryer (brand Artem) is slightly bigger, but even like this it is not easy to geta full set of 3 inches rollers under. I have posted several new pictures in my Fotki album showing how it looks: with a full set, my friend could not enter fully under the hood, with less rollers it works
So by reducing the number of rollers or by substituting a few black rollers at the strategic locations it could work with the Pibbs.
I hope it helps, pm me if you want more details

I've had my Pibbs 514 for almost a yr. I roller set my hair with the grey rollers AND MY HEAD WOULD't FIT UNDERNEATH THE DRYER. The visor on the hood doesn't seem to lift up. I had to squeeze my big head underneath the hood because I refuse to take all of those rollers out.

I have the 512---no major differences

512(white)
514(black)

512(low/med/high)
514(temperature gauge)

The wattage was neligible, I can't find the stats now. The 514 is more aesthetically pleasing(imho) than the 512---but price difference wasn't worth it. I love the 512---too bad I have used it like, twice :-/

I have the 514 and I love the temperature setting. All of my previous dryers have high, medium, low and I always find that the high is way too high, the medium not high enough and the low i don't even use. With the 514 I can set the temp. perfect so I'm so glad I got that one.

I think the hood sizes are the same for both and I do know one thing, those dryers will not fit huge rollers if you use a lot of them. I barely squeezed in with my big black ones (next size up from the gray, can't remember the inches) and I only had ten rollers in for a ponytail rollerset. Anymore and I wouldn't have fit. Once I was in there it was fine...plenty of room but the problem was fitting into the hood entrance because it's smaller. I had to have help maneuvering my head through there, lol.
