come on yall.... she said " (Thank you Jesus for bringing this into my life! This product significantly straightens new growth without the use of heat!)" has no one else tried this product??? With so many of us trying to extend relaxer touch-ups... this sounds like the answer to our prayers.... i just want a few more co-signers! AND she's a coarse 4B!!
It was me who wrote that about Phytodefrisant. It works very well for me. I just put it on the visible parts of my new growth and it does a great job of blending my new growth with the relaxed parts of my hair. I don't use it with heat, and I would say it gets my hair about 70% straight. I'm sure it could get my hair even straighter if heat is used, but I'm satisfied with the results I get without heat.
The product itself is like a gel, but it has no hold at all. And you don't feel it in your hair once it has dried. It's very light and leaves a nice shine on the hair. I don't know exactly how it works, because it doesn't feel like other straightening products which tend to "weigh down" the hair into being straighter. It must be the botanical ingredients.
My hair is 3c/4a, by the way, so I don't know how well it works on more tightly coiled textures. Phytodefrisant costs $22 for 3.4 oz., so if you decide to try it, buy it at a place where you can return it in case it doesn't work well for you. Sephora and, I think, Neiman's or Saks carries it.
I think any hair type will find some success w/this product. I swear by it. But don't expect it to straighten your hair completely, it's going to smooth the textures. It helps me w/any tangling and softens my hair nicely. I'm 15 weeks post texturizer now and I have no issues managing my new growth. I don't even notice it until I exercise...

Do you have to use alot of the product? I find that it requires only a quarter-sized portion per application, but your hair is significantly longer. I could easily only purchase 2 tubes a year.

For those of you who use it, do you still use a chemical relaxer every now and then? and why?
Is it possible to just use the Photo Balm and not relax ever? Or does your hair still tend to revert back even with more applications?
I've been using another non-chem. relaxer and want to find one that I may be able to use and cut out chemical relaxing all together.

Hey texasqt,,,I just began my transitional period....Unfortunately, I am not able to answer your questions yet....I hope someone else can help you ..........I am curious to know myself....
Re: Phyto Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing B
For those of you who use it, do you still use a chemical relaxer every now and then? and why? Yes, my hair is lightly texturized. I texturize twice a year. I have a natural curl pattern that I like, but couldn't wash n' wear. I decided to texturize so that I could manage my hair and have more "natural" or heat-free options. The Defrisant didn't aid me much is reaching this goal (wash n' wear that is).
Is it possible to just use the Photo Balm and not relax ever? Or does your hair still tend to revert back even with more applications? The Phytodefrisant is more of smoothing balm on type 3c, 4a & 4b hair. I'm sure it would straighten nicely if you have type 1 or 2 hair. You'll find that your hair is easier to manage, for example it would help greatly if you wanted to smooth your hair back into a air dry bun style. With repeated use I can say that my hair has benefitted. My texture looks a little different, a bit finer, but it started fine. It alone would never take the place of a chemical relaxer, but definitely helps w/management. I think the promise they are making (& meeting) is that overtime the strands will smooth, but if the nature of the hair is to coil, that's what it's going to do, but strands will be smoother. Does that make sense to you? You kinda have to understand what strands look like, like under a microscope. Well conditioned healthy hair is smoother, which has nothing to do w/the actual texture of the hair.
I've been using another non-chem. relaxer and want to find one that I may be able to use and cut out chemical relaxing all together. Not sure about this one. I can say that I've had no problems managing new growth. So maybe it would help you stretch them a bit longer, more comfortably. And if you want to transition it will assist you. When I used it on my natural hair I found that it worked well, helped greatly w/detangling the kink.
I was using heat back then, so I'm certain it would work quite well w/a rollerset, even on natural hair, b/c it's heat activated.
