I want to know if our area is in the hard water zone?
Because no matter what I do outside of my nightly baggy I can't seem to keep the moisture in.:wallbash: And even when I co/wash I can't stand the way my 4/b napps feel after :nono:not moist but dry and I've tried every conditioner under the sun from high end lines to the cheapies. And yes I do clarify regularly.

Please Help!:perplexed

Sorry for the demanding title but I'm realy at my wits end and scared that I may lose my progess. This time of year is really harsh on my hair and this is the time my hair like to abandoned ship and leave my scalp via breakage. So if anyone knows please give me your insight pleeaase.

Someone posted a chart of the US showing all the hard water zones and we are NOT in one according to that chart. Sorry I can't find the link to it anymore. To be on the safe side you could purchase a shower/sink filter or do your final rinse with distilled water.

I can certainly understand where you are coming from because I'm going through the same problem. I'm thinking it's due to the dry indoor heat and having to be out in the cold weather intermittently. My scalp is definitely dryer and I have seen an increase in breakage.

I plan to get a humidifier for indoors and I've also started prepooing with EVOO massage on my scalp. I will keep my head fully covered when going outside and probably step up on the deep conditioning (maybe twice a week instead of once a week).

I don't know about hard water, but cosign on the dry heat and cold weather being moisture- robbers.

I moisturize with CURLS Whipped Cream in the evening and Carrot Cream by Hollywood Beauty for day. I also like Curl Junkie leave- in, and alternate that with CURLS.

Sheamoisture is amazing too but I am having a hard time finding it in the stores.

I think we do have hard water... I'm in the Philly burbs on the Jersey side.

Getting a humidifier really does help.

As for me, what really helps is keeping my hair protected from those arctic winds by wearing wigs. I wear a silk scarf underneath 2 wig caps to keep those cold winds from reaching my hair and whipping the moisture away.

Yeah Philly has hard water. The chart that was posted in the other thread (if I remember correctly) hasn't been updated since the 70s. I noticed a big difference when I moved here from Baltimore. I chelate once a month to get the build up out.

I dont know, I don't have a problem with my hair holding moisture. If it feels like the DC wasn't as soft and moisturing as it normally work than that let's me know to clarify at my next poo and use Roux Porosity Control after pooing b4 I DC.. I just started using ACV at each poo again like I use too when I first started my regimen and I like that better.

It's definately harder here than in New York (I went back home and DC'd one week and I was amazed at the difference), but its not THAT hard. (I've also washed my hair in Orlando and boy that was like washing with rubbing alcohol). I think a humidifier helps. I want to get one for my apartment as well. There's a portable one on ebay that i've been watching

I decided not to bid though, hence why i'm linking:giggle:

Yeah, I think there is something in the water. I never noticed, but when I came up from NC, something was off. Nevertheless, I retained my length so I don't think it's THAT hard.

I don't have a problem with moisture either but I am really on my grind with it and that includes pre-poos, daily moisturizing, sealing, etc.

I didn't know that we had hard water. I asked DH who is a plumber and he said if we had hard water the soap wouldn't lather. Go figure. I thought that only applied for Rain water. *hmmn* He said for people who have hard water, you usually see a lot of rust stains around the tub where the water comes out. So when you put the shampoo and stuff in your hair it wouldn't lather very well.

I have issues retaining moisture as well. I pretty much just gave up.

I know we have hard water just by washing clothes! But I never noticed it with hair. Hmmmmm, I am always using moisturizing conditioners, oils, creams, magic potions but this is definitely something to think about!
