Perfect hair on washday, or as the days go on?

I've noticed when i wash my hair, it looks indescribable as it dries:nono:.. Right now, i have a halo at the front of my hair. The pony tail part puffs right up:lol:. It doesn't even feel nice/soft.. yet i can't manipulate it/do anything- because the middle is still wet.

Can anyone get there hair looking right As they airdry it? Or is it just something that just happens after a few days?

Are you simply trying to airdry it in a ponytail or are you airdrying in a style? I don't really understand what you're trying to do with the hair AFTER you wash it.

@bb09, I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. What's your hairtype?

This is a puff created as soon as I came out of the shower probably after towel-drying then after I had applied S Curl, hence the compact shrunken puff. I wore it all day and the hair stayed like that till bed time when I took it apart to braid it for the night--by which time it was completely dry.

I never go to bed w/o plaiting my hair so "second day" hair flop isn't something I ever have to worry about. On the second day, after baggying at night in plaits, my hair was a bit stretched although shrinkage still happened, just not to the previous degree. And once again I had a pretty puff that looked something like this:

BTW, halos don't bother me at all, so you'll never see me trying to gel my hair down to prevent them. They aren't so obvious in the above pics but you can see that my hair that the flat part of my hair is kinda furry. Still I considered it pretty neat and wouldn't change anything about it:

Don't you dare focus on or talk about my shiny fivehead! I'm warning you. :bat: That's where I keep all my brain--just that front part--so I needed the room, OK? :look:

That is an awesome question!! I always have some days where after a wash and go my next day hair looks really good, but others it's a hit and miss. I figured out that I was putting too many styling products in my hair after a wash. Now I just use WEN as my leave-in, lightly moisturize and my eco styler olive oil gel for my edges. I also purchased some Alba un-petroleum jelly which is natural and has the texture and look of vaseline and it works wonders as a sealant and on my ends then I put it in a ponytail and braid my ends and tie it down with a scarf. Since I started this my hair is awesome the next day it's a little wet in the center but later on as it dries my hair is so soft moisturized and stretched. I have so much shrinkage after a wash so I have to bun it in the shower to keep it stretched.

definitely AFTER wash day. i hate washing my hair, because it gets too clean and gets dry. i love my hair probably a 3-4 days later after I've applied product to get it back to where it was before i washed.

I thought it was only me that had this happen. My hair feels good the 3rd day and after I have moisturized it for 2 days. I am hoping it changes with time so I might try a twist out or a wash n go.

yeah i like my hair on day 1 most of the time, but it def looks better on subsequent days...even when i was relaxed my hair always looked better the day after i got it done

my hair is perfect day 1....then each day more and more frizz....I'm tempted to go back to cowashing and reapplying product every day..

*closer*2*my*dreams* -I airdry it in the ponytail.
I usually (always) end up leaving my hair in a ponytail, but it just looks horrible –when I’m trying to do Good in washing it lol. And I get tangles.. my hair literally clumps together. –this might be a whole other thread. I couldn’t find a pic, but if you think of a braidout, and how when ppl take the braids out, they have nicely defined wave /clump –I have that too, but it matts with the rest of my hair. It’s usually 1 or 2 sections I have to pull apart, and I’ll get a knot there too.

Nonie –I’m texlaxed 4a/b. looser part in the back.
What I mean is, when I wash my hair –I waited a week and a half and did it only because I was moisturising daily and sealing, and my scalp started to itch some. It Looked good though.

But then as soon as I wash it and attempt to dry it (scarf airdry), why did it look like I backcombed the top of my hair yesterday. Along with the shrunken puff -I’m texlaxed, not natural though, so it just looked like a bad blowdry. But because the middle is still wet..drying, that’s how I end up looking for 1 or 2 days. Nonie –atleast yours looks nice.!! I just don’t like the halo when the rest of my hair is tied down, bcos that’s the 1st thing you see lol, and it's clear i'm not natural.

Thanks An_gell –a 'thanks' and a 'like' for you lol. And yes!!..But it’s Always a miss these days.. aka the last 2 years! One thing i did yesterday, is i left some conditioner in my hair.. i didn't rinse it all the way out, then i airdried it with the scarf on top. And sealed it in the morning. It came out looking horrible, even though i used minimal product! I'm not sure if i should try to wet bun, or if it'll mean more tangles for me.

And faithVA -exactly!! It takes days to get back to where it was. But i almost hate doing my hair now. I've been at almost APL for months now

when i shampoo, I'm mostly styling my hair, I'm not airdrying in a ponytail. I am going to assume that you deep condition afterwards, use a leave-in, detangle, and seal with an oil prior to putting it in a ponytail. When I co-wash, my hair immediately goes in a bun. I use s-curl and my aveda detangling brush and then seal with coconut oil. I then use a scarf to lay down my hair and help create some waves while I get dressed. I never have an issue with my hair matting nor with it drying hard or knotting or any of that.

@*closer*2*my*dreams*, Normally, I deep condition, or just condition after shampooing. Rinse that out, towel blot, then apply conditioner as a leave in.. -the best moisturiser I’ve found for my hair.

The last time, I rinsed out just some of the conditioner, towel blotted, then I put it in a ponytail, and put a scarf on top. I don’t detangle after –my hair can’t take it! And you’re lucky. Matting and knotting is the worst!! I’m finding it harder to do my hair now, than I did at 12 months post relaxer.
