I've maintained a middle part for over 3 years now. I think I remember reading that your hair thins where your part is, or there's one side or the other that promotes hair growth ( I've read so much hair info that I can't begin to tell you where I read it. Probably back at the old Longhairlover's multicultural board  ) Anyway, just curious where you part your hair and if you see any thinning or extra growth per which side, (or middle) you part your hair.

I always do a middle parting. It's so much easier.

Side partings are too much hassle... is the angle right... does it go too far back... is it in the right place... etc.

Apparently, most people look better with side partings though.

I can't remember which side they advocate for growth either:lol: oh well! I alternate my parts every other week just to prevent any type of damage.

I can't pull off a middle part, especially if I am in a bun. Its looks kinda okay when my hair is down, but my face shape and huge forehead do not look cute with middle part:ohwell:

When I have twists--my part is on my left, but when I have braid extentions it is in the middle. dunno why--just always turns out that way.

I've been doing the middle part thing and I am starting to get nervous about it. I kept thinking, "is my hair going to thin out where I part it?" I try to part my hair to the side but it always goes back to "that middle part thing." But when I look, there is no thinning, except for where I used a brush... *sigh*

my mother in law's hair thinned where her middle part is too. She's had that same part for YEARS and it just got wider and wider and wider. Poor thing. I wish I could wear a middle part though-- they always look so cute on people to me. I always have to do a side part and a side swoop with my bangs b/c my forehead is just too big to be all up close and personal:lol:

I have a natural part down the middle that I did not even know was there. I had been wearing weaves and braids for so long that I thught something was wrong up there. But, I realize now that it is just naturally there.

I've been wearing a middle part for at least 10 years.

My hair has not thinned at all in the middle.

The hair by my temples is thinnning... Stress!

I normally wear a middle part. I don't notice thinning but I DO notice the area grows slower than the rest. Maybe I should switch up every now and again.

ive been parting my hair on the left for almost a decade now and i do notice that the area near the part gets the most growth. i never noticed any thinning.

I don't understand why your hair would thin where you always have a part? I ALWAYS part my hair on the left side of my head and I don't have thin hair...I don't look right with a center part...

maybe it has something to do with your hair being pulled taut and experiencing tension at that same location everyday over time? I don't know:confused: My MIL has a wide center part, but she's pretty old though so maybe its just natural thinning with age?

I used to part my hair on the left, but I noticed some breakage (no thinning though). Now I alternate left and right parts every week because I feel like my face is too long for a center part.

I part my hair on the left to highlight the better side of my face where my beauty mole is. :bdance: Yeah, sometimes I'm vain. Anywho, I move the part around or change the slant on it a lot, so I don't have the thinning.

I was just thinking about this topic today. It's to the point where my middle part comes back w/out a hassle. I dont notice any thinning. I like left side parts but only when my hair is out. I feel that with a left side part, I cannot pull my hair smoothly into a ponytail.

Great thread!

I do a left side part. No thinning yet although after reading this thread maybe I'll start switching sides, for variety.

I should be bald then cause I have been wearing a middle part for 15 years since high school. A few times I would put a side part, but majority is middle

I never thought that parting your hair in one particular spot could possibly lead to thinness or breakage.

Whenever I part my hair I always part on the left side, and every now and then in the middle, though it doesnt look as good when its parted on the side coz I have a small widows peak! I never experienced thinness or breakage either.

I've been parting in the middle for about 14 years. NO thinning. In fact I often have trouble making it, due to all of the hair and some of it uncooperative. :antlers:

Its true because I part in the middle of my head and my hair is extremly thin.

I parted my hair in the middle for years. I wear it straight back more often now since I wear it in puffs and stuff, but my hair does try to part in the middle on its own now. It isn't thinner there, though.

i usually do a right part...my hair just seems to lie better that way...however since my bangs have been growing out, ive been able to do a nice center part without my hair sticking out everywhere. :)

Before relaxer stretching, I religously wore a left part. I always felt my forehead was too big to try to do anything else...and of course, for a while in the 90s, I did the "swoop" so the part was necessary.

But when I do braidouts or any other textured style, I prefer a middle part...especially if I have a lot of new growth. The bulkiness of my hair causes me to prefer a middle part b/c I find it's easier to get it to cooperate if it's not packed hair on top of hair or more hair on one side (i.e. left part, lots of hair on right side and vice versa).

i have a small side part that is natural, but for the most part I dont part my hair I let it fall wherever

Most of the time I part down the middle to be honest. Sometimes I may part to the left and swoop it. I really depends on my mood. I can't style hair all that well :perplexed , but I try :ohwell: .
