Parabens

Relentless

Reinventing
Hello,

I've read in different threads that parabens in hair products are bad. Can someone explain to me what parabens are or why are they bad? I tried to do a search, but really couldn't find anything.

Thanks,
Relentless

The short answer is that they're a type of artificial preservative used to prevent fats in water-containing solutions from going rancid. In certain studies they've been identified in breast cancer tumors, hence the controversy surrounding them.

Were you searching the forums here for info? If so, there's plenty to be found via Google. If you're interested, the Skin Deep Database (http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/) is a fairly comprehensive resource that rates the safety of preservatives and other ingredients in personal care products.

they are preservatives that are manmade and once absorbed into the bloodstream cause a multitude of issues including mimicking hormones. Goggle dangers of parabens when you get the chance.

The main hormone they mimic is estrogen.

Women with estrogen imbalance or with too much estrogen (women with endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids) should avoid parabens lije the plague since they exacerbate the problem.

Honestly, everyone should avoid parabens (men, women, and children and animals too, I suppose), but estrogen dominant women are more susceptible to their immediately harmful effects. Soy has the exact same harmful effect of adding estrogen to an estrogen-dominant body. Avoid!

I have all 3 of the issues listed above, and when I do avoid, all my symptoms are either lessened or non-existent. PM for details and for info my Dr. gave me if you need to...
