Hi Sylver,

I saw on another thread that you went from shoulder to bra-strap in about a year and a half. And that you went to a dominican salon regularly.

Can you detail this process for me?

Hey Rabia - I take it that you're referring to this statement from Sylver2 --

I had a blunt above Shoulder length cut for my wedding in 2000.
I started to grow it out early 2001. I reached bra strap length summer 2003. I was going to dominicans for my touchups which I got every 6-7 weeks. Deep conditioned every week. Wrapped (doobie) hair every single night. I did not get a trim the entire time.
I finally had it trimmed summer 2003, got a blunt cut of 3-4 inches in Nov 2004.
During that time my staples were Loreal colorvive mask and daily conditioner. Which I love and would go back to if I hadn't found NTM. I use to sleep in the loreal mask and rinse the next day.
My hair is growing much faster now since I strted stretching relaxer and combing hair once a week.

I'm just asking for me...cause I think I'm confused....are you referring to what did she have done at the Dominican salon to be detailed?

Hi Mona,

Yes this is the quote that I'm referring to. No I don't need the dominican salon detailed, but I wanted to know why she didn't stretch to do this, because I've been thinking that if I don't stretch I won't get there. I'm finding it hard to stretch at my current length. I also want to know how she managed not trimming for a year. I'm asking because right now her regimen that took her from above shoulder to bra seems very similar to mine.

Hi, Rabia:--)))
Reasons I didn't stretch relaxer back then, were I was obsessed with the bone straight look. If it wasn't for the fact that I LOVE the bone straight look I would probably go natural.
My new growth would come in quick and thick.
I got touchups every 6-7 weeks at dominicans and get blowout straight. I use Optimum no lye or Creme of Nature no lye. Then wrap it every night to keep it straight.
This is the first time I have stretched my relaxer.
LHCF has been wonderful and through it thats how I've learned how to stretch it healthy. It grows even quicker now that I started stretching it. I'm already back to where I was when I blunt cut 3-4 inches off in Nov.
I've found what works fwonders for me while stretching(check out fokti)
As far as trims I usually get them every 6 months now. I don't find it necessary to get trims so much unless ends are badly damaged.
Right now my Satin scarf, NTM and Rusk are my very best friends..lol.
I am stretching till April 20. After that I am only stretching relaxer 2-3 months from now on.

@sylver.... your hair is soooooooooo gorgeous!!! My hair is extremely envious! lol. thanks for the tips. i am trying to hold out trimming my ends till at least november. so i will see how it does

I checked your album...do you think that you could have stretched like this with your hair above shoulder length?? I'm asking because my hair is finer than yours and very coarse, I've been concerned with stretching with my fine texture because of the line of demarcation. I've been washing weekly at a domincan salon so that they could smooth the new growth out hair out for me and I would not have had to try to do it with my flat iron. Actually I haven't used my beloved Chi flat iron since I started going to the dominican salon (it must be getting lonely ;) ) Anyway I would love to airdry but with my hair at this current length airdrying causes me to lose more hair than I retain since I like to have my hair straight. It gives me encouragement that it is possible to go to bra-strap, even if I can't stretch my relaxers for long.

Thanks for your response.

Oh, Most definately I could have stretched when I was above shoulder length.
It probably would be even easier for you since you say your hair is finer.
The only thing is while I'm stretching I don't go to dominicans. I don't go to salon at all. I try not to touch my new growth. The only time my new growth is touched is once a week during washing/conditioning.
I wear my satin scarf everyday which helps to flatten new growth. ITs already styled, I just take of scarf and and go. No combing, styling nothing. Thats whats helping me stretch. The fact that I am not manipulating my new growth at all. A couple of times these past 4 months, I have done my own dominican blowout at home just to see how much growth I attained.
I tell you the satin scarf method is working wonders for me.

Thanks for the explaination Sylver...

Did you go to the salon at the beginning of your stretch...say when you were only a couple of weeks post relaxer??

Also which Rusk product are you referring to??

Sylver2, do u still wash your hair once a week with this scarf method???

YUP!!
Except for last week which is the picture below. Last week I blow dried it straight and flat ironed it to see how much growth I had.

I went 1 month post to get blunt cut and rollerset. That was the last time I've been.
I use a leave in conditioner called Rusk Sensories smoother Aloe & Passion flower Leave in. LOVE IT LOVE IT.
It smooths ends and hair and works wonders.

Yes, please try it. It is soo easy and comes out nice. new growth is flat and ends are curled.

quick ?
i looked at your album and saw you use a satin scarf method at night. can you explain that more in detail. i get flattening the hair with the scarf, but the problem is when i put the rest of my hair in the bonnet, it comes out weird looking. how do you place the rest of your hair in the bonnet without your hair looking dry and frizzy in the morning? do you tuck your ends under? do you use pins? i tried using rollers while i sleep, but my hair still comes out poofy and frizzy.
thanks

Hi, I only put the bonnet on when my hair is straight, because its longer then scarf. With that I have an oversized bonnet and only put it half way on my head. I don't don't put it all the way on head cause I already have the satin scarf protecting the front. So its very loose and have plenaty of room in back.
I use the satin scarf only for everything else cause it fits just right when hair not straight.

With the drying method in my album with scarf and and rollers on ends. After dried I take everything off.
I rub the NTM silk touch cream on my ends taking special care with them so it won't have that frizzy look and mix that w/NTM serum and rub throughout rest of hair.
I put scarf back on head, I grab hair and pull it back like I'm getting ready to put it in ponytail but don't, take one hand pull end of scarf under hair,
grab other scarf end, bend all the way over so hair is hanging out back and tie tight. Make sure end of scarf is same length or longer then hair. that should be enuf protection. It usually is for me. I go to bed, wake up and hair is silky, wavy. The first day or so I usually have to tweak ends in the morning a little bit. I smooth it with the NTM silk touch. I hope this helps. Its so hard for me to explain it:-)

Girl, I just looked through your album. You are my hair twin.
I've found her at last..lol
The only thing is you like to wear your hair full and texturized looking. I like to wear mine thin and straight looking.

I got mine at the local Asian BSS.
Your avatar is so nice, it makes me want to get bangs.

I haven't even thought about that. Maybe that's why I'm so drawn to your hair pics and techniques! I do pay close attention to your posts since you are more experienced and successful with your haircare regimen than I am (I'm still learning). I'm sure you have everyone's attention!
