Since you're in my area I wanted to ask you if you know of any reputable beauty schools around the area. I'm willing to travel if they are good. I've been reading about some of the girls getting their wash and sets done at these schools for cheap and I want to try someone. My hair has become too long and tedious for me to roller set it, I actually don't mind sitting under the dryer (with a good book, of course) but also with my dryer it takes too long (I need to upgrade to one of the upright, floor models). Or do you know of a salon in the area that is not too expensive? Thanks! Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm not in MI, but I have a book (Thanks, hairfanatic! /images/graemlins/smile.gif ) written by Mr. John of Mr. John's Hair Clinic in Detroit. He specializes in resolving hair problems and growing black hair. He has schools in Decatur and Champaign. He really seems to value haircare over hairstyle.

If I lived in the area, I'd check him out! Do I have to relocate to find a "Mr. John" or a "Marvin"? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I actually went there from age 7 - 13. Then again at around age 17 - 19. He was PISSED off when I got my first relaxer. The only specialize in hairCARE. I don't even recall them doing hairstyles.

They are a bit expensive (worth every dime if you can afford it), but (there's always a but isn't? lol) they charge by the length when I went there. So it would be a bit pricey for your length MissM. They are right on 6 Mile near Schafer.
