ORS Hair Mayo Users

Hi guys!! /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I tried to do a search but it got tedious to try to search how everyone uses ORS. It would make it easier if it were all in one thread (I don't think this has been asked before--forgive me if it has).

How do you use your Hair Mayo? For example--

*How often do you use it?
*How long do you leave it on? With or without heat?
*Do you add anything to it? If so, what?
*Do you follow up with a moisturizing conditioner afterwards? If so, which one?

I used to use it years ago but don't remember if I liked it. I think I did but I also think I mainly used it becasue it was the product that was being raved about at the time. You know what I mean? /images/graemlins/blush.gif

At any rate, I'm looking for ideas to get the most out of this product. Thanks guys. Looking forward to your replies. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

*How often do you use it? 1-2 times per month

*How long do you leave it on? With or without heat? 20 mins with heat, sometimes without heat for 1 hour

*Do you add anything to it? If so, what? No

*Do you follow up with a moisturizing conditioner afterwards? If so, which one? Yes, Elucence or Pantene Smooth and sleek

Overall, it's a very good protein conditioner. It leaves the hair feeling very soft, but strong at the same time. This is a staple in my arsenal!

Do you use the Elucence as a rinse out or do you leave it in for a while ArmyQT?

Seems like I'm going to have to try this Pantene Smooth and Sleek soon.

Thanks!!!

I use the Elucence as a rinse out and a leave-in. it works very well both ways. You have got to try to Pantene. I used to use it years ago and somehow got away from it. I am loving it, again.

so you use pantene smooth and sleek as a moisturizing conditioner following a protein conditioner? i would like to know because the other moisturizing condtioners are a bit pricy and pantene's price seems up my alley. God bless you all.

I'm sorry ArmyQt, I didn't phrase my question properly. When you use the Elucence as a rinse out after the ORS--do you rinse it out immediately or do you let it sit for 5 minutes or so before rinsing it out?

After you rinse it out, do you use it as a leave-in again?

I let it sit for about another five minutes or sometimes I get back under the dryer for about 20min when I need a deep moisturizing conditioning. HTH

Azul, I do indeed. I love the pantene. I usually finish all my washes with it. Even if it's only for 5 min.

I'm just wondering, does anyone use the ORS shampoo, I was using it for a while with no ill effects but then switched to Creme of nature which gives me great moisture. But what do y'all have to say about the ORS shampoo?

Hi Daviine,

I use the ORS once a week. I use it with a heat cap and leave it on for an hour. I find that I don't have to follow it up with anything because it leaves my hair very soft. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I love ORS mayo and use it once a week. I leave it on for an hour or more and don't follow up w/anything else, b/c it does leave the hair very soft!

i use mine weekly as a deep conditioner.
I leave it on for anywhere from w/ heat 20mins-2hrs w/o heat
I DONT follow with anything else, because my hair feels SOOOO soft

Okay...I'm hoping that this was just because my last touchup was on January 10 but this ORS doesn't seem to be working for me.

I mean my hair does SEEM stronger ( I might be imagining this) but it didn't seem soft. Maybe I'm comparing it to Mizani Moisturefuse and maybe that's why it doesn't seem soft.

I think I'm going to stick with my Mizani Moisturefuse until my next touchup and try again when my hair is freshly touched up and see if that makes a difference. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

moisturfuse is a protein conditioner? is ors a protein conditioner? or are they both deep conditioners? all this terminology gets me confused? i thought moisturfuse was a moisturizing conditioner. /images/graemlins/confused.gif God bless you all.

I don't think it's your imagination. The moisturefuse may make your hair softer, but the ORS definately strengthens. If you want, you could use the Moisturefuse for 10 minutes after the ORS if your hair doesn't get as soft as you want. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Azul...Moisturefuse is a moisturizing conditioner. I was trying to alternate with each wash BUT I got discouraged today. I was contemplating just using Moisturefuse until touch up time for ease of combing.
They are both deep conditioners but ORS is a protein conditioner.
Hope that cleared things up for you.

It may be the conditioner Daviine. Many many people love ORS and I used it sooh many times thinking that it would work with my hair, but it didn't. It was stronger, but dryer, no matter what I did, including a moisturizing conditioner afterwards. Maybe you should try another protein conditioner and compare that to the ORS. Just my experience..HTH

*How often do you use it?
After every hair wash 2 times a week minimum
*How long do you leave it on? With or without heat?
1/2 hour minimum to sometimes overnight, usually about 2-3 hours though. I use it without heat now I find it workd better with about 2 plastic caps on.
*Do you add anything to it? If so, what?
/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sometimes a i put some Power Gro (Gold Medal) Silk rinse on my hair followed by the ORS, or I'll put some Queen Helene Cholesterol hot oil treatment on my hair first then put the ORS on the top and comb it thru
*Do you follow up with a moisturizing conditioner afterwards? If so, which one?
Never. I don't need to, it leaves my hair feeling really soft afterwards. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I found that mixing the ORS with olive oil and honey and using it as pre treatment makes my hair really really soft.
I've also tried this method as a deep conditioner and it works well too, but I prefer it as a pretreatment and something more moisturizing as a deep conditioner.

I used to use ORS MAyo back in the days exclusively. ORS MAyo and CPR were my first product acquisitions if I remember correctly when I started hair boards back in 1999. I think I tried ORS and I liked it. However, I don't think I had much to compare it to. I think that may be part of the problem.

Also, I remember using Aussie Hair Insurance and Pantene Leave-In to detabgle my hair. So maybe the conditioner is working the same but I am so used to conditioners with slip perhaps.

I see that other people leave it on longer than the instructions but maybe I can't do that. SInce I have a 3/4 full jar. I guess I will have to play around with different factors to see what the probem is. Perhaps I just can't use it very often. I have no clue. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

When you guys say your hair is soft, do you mean after it has dried? Becasue a MAJOR part of my evaluation of a conditioner comes during the rinse out for me.
