i've tried ors twice...both times, i've ended up with a texlax rather than a completely straightened result...the second time, i left it on much longer than the first and didn't use a base. is this as good as it gets? i need to know because i love the way my hair feels with it, but i don't want to overlap or, one day, get the bottom straight while the rest above it is texlaxed.

thanks!

Your hair looks as if it is both thick and coarse like mine. I left ORS Extra Strength in for over thirty minutes, but my hair was still underprocessed. The only relaxer that does a good job on my hair is the new Optimum Care. I would use the super strength first to "correct" the underprocessed. Then, I would revert to Optimum Care in regular to try to avoid damage.

I also had a similiar experience with ORS recently. My hair is very fine and not at all coarse. I ended up with tex-lax hair that was really dry and I experienced a whole lot of shedding and breakage! At first I didnt know what was wrong, but then I figured it had to be the relaxer. No amount of Porosity Control helped me, and after this experience I am NOT using ORS again, infact, this is making me strongly deliberate over switching to LYE.

LMAO,

DAMN.

ORS straightened my hair in under 10 minutes..

Are you using lye or no-lye. I think I understand that lye doesn't straighten as well. But I could be wrong.

i didn't use ORS, but all the other no-lye relaxers i've used in my lifetime have left my hair underprocessed. :ohwell: i was advised to switch to a strong lye relaxer, which i was afraid of doing. i ended up going natural instead, LOL. but maybe one day if i ever decide to relax again, i'll try a lye relaxer and see if it makes a difference...

I used the ORS No-Lye in Extra Strength, smoothed with my bare fingers/back of comb/relaxer brushe, and still came out underprocessed.
The relaxer was on my head for over thirty minutes.

How long was your stretch prior to you relaxing?

I experienced the same. I stretched for ten weeks then used ORS regular no-lye and came out underprocessed. I didn't leave it on longer than the recommended time.

You know what. When I used the No Lye, It would never get bone straight. I used super and I smoothed it also. But I loved the way it made my hair feel. Unfortunately, it was never bonestraight how I liked it. I too left it on for 30 mins. I recently switched to ORS Lye super and it did a much better job and I left it on for only 12-15 minutes. I do still have a little patch that is under processed but I was thinking that it was because I didn't fully smoth that section out all the way. Next time I get my perm in April or May, I will let my hairdresser do it, and then I can determine fully if its me, or the relaxer. But I feel what you are saying. You may need to switch.

I self relax at about 12 weeks post and ORS gets my hair really straight. I use the regular and my hair is very coarse and thick. Maybe it is just not the relaxer for you.

I had the same experience with ORS. I have fine hair, stretched for 10 weeks, and came out underprocessed. I probably won't be using this relaxer again.

i don't know which one it was (lye/no-lye)...it's the only one i ever see on the shelves @ cvs...see, i'm new to all this and i never paid attention or knew that there was a difference. i kinda like the way it feels, but it's about 2 inches of textaxed hair in my crown - everything else is pretty much relaxed...and, trust, i smoothed it there, began there and everything.

I think it would be best NOT to use a super strength when correcting. The hair is already processed some and you would not want to overprocess and cause severe damage to the hair. I would suggest actually using regular (for a fraction of the time--like 5-10 min) to correct or even mild if you self-relax and are a little slower in application.

And always remember to be extra careful when correcting as it can always be a gamble to apply chemicals to already chemically processed hair.

ETA: I think ORS only makes a no-lye. HTH
ETA2: oops! looks like I'm wrong. They DO make a lye version.

Secretdiamond, you are right. I forgot that my hair is on a different level than most people's:( . (Who else could use a Super for over half an hour and come out underpocessed or receive Affirm/Mizani/Insert Expensive Relaxer touch-ups at the "best" hair salons and still come out looking like a poodle?) Anyway, I wrote what worked for me, and I should have added a disclaimer.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I use ORS no-lye (normal)..since my hair is too fine stranded for a super. I added 2 tblspns of olive oil and 1 tblspn of sweet almond oil into the relaxer creme.. and it straightened me pretty good.. I mean I don't want my hair bone straight(b/c that's not healthy for my hair) but it did the trick.. I am thankful it wasn't in my hair any longer! It was on my head for about 14 minutes before rinsing it out in the shower. It got me alot straighter than I wanted but it came out pretty, silky and holds moisture alot better than my previous no lye relaxer. Everyone's hair is different and responds different to other products...so it may not be the relaxer for your hair.

Sorry ORS didn't work for you. :(

I usually stretch for at least 12 weeks (usually 13 to 14) and my hair has turned out very nicely using ORS. Maybe you should consider trying a different relaxer.

Oh girl I'm sorry. I know the feeling of your hair not being as processed as you would like. I went through it for so long after switching to lye, but I've finally found one that works. I hope this isn't causing you as much problems as it did me. That was a nightmare!

ORS olive oil relaxer is the relaxer that got my hair the most strait. It is still underprocessed, but it is my own fault. I should never have added conditioner to it. :ohwell: I was afraid that it would damage my hair. This relaxer is really gentle. The next time, I will not add anything to the relaxer. I'll just base my scalp the night before and the day of the relaxer.:)

ive had the same problem. I was thinking it was just my technique.

My hair is fine too but my newgrowth is very kinky so I dunno.

I like the relaxer because its moisturizing but so far it has left me underprocessed. I was thinking I didnt get enough creame on my head but I dunno.

It would look straight after i relaxed and then a week later I would see that my hair is reverting.

My hair is fine and I used normal.

I have patches of newgrowth in the back and my hair is getting hard to comb out lol and Ihave to wait till march to relax my head. :(

Im thinking about switching to affirm

i used it with an inch of new growth and an inch of underprocessed hair and it got my hair 95% straight. i ran out of relaxer towards the end and couldn't cover the remainder of my hair.

it was my fault because my hair is thick and coarse i should have known to get two jars with all the new growth i had. i left it on for 15 min so it wouldn't over process my hair. overall i'm happy and i'll be using it again soon.

REVERT! that's what happened to me! i guess i'm in a catch 22 - i absolutely LOVE the way my hair feels - it's so soft...at least, the processed part is...

now, i guess i'm off to find another relaxer that can get my hair just as soft and process my entire head of hair.

After I relaxed with ORS, I vowed I was going to send hate mail to the company!

But that was my own fault and not moisturizing my hair afterwards. It is my understanding that no-lye tends to leave your hair real thirsty.

But I was disappointed with my hair being TOO straight for the amount of time I left the relaxer on. But I think it was because I had permanent dyed strands too.

But I'm happy with the results now, and how soft my hair is.
