ORS Article in Essence re: New Growth/Itchy Scalp

Hairsnob

Deep Thinker
I was reading an article in Essence mag by ORS and it said the reason ur scalp itches near touch-up time may be because the differently textured "thicker" strand new growth hair is trying to emerge through a smaller space. Therefore causing it to itch. Sorry if I'm not clear, but i'll search for article.

Does this make sense? It does and doesn't to me because the relaxed hair came out the scalp thick so why would the hole it originally came from shrink?? Ok, checkin for article now.

ETA: I can't find it but it was an ad actually. In the issue with Paula Patton on cover

I'm about to be graphic...so please forgive me in advance.

I can understand what they're trying to say. Other "holes" in your body shrink back down after something has come out of it (or gone into it :sekret:)

I confused lol... the relaxer doesn't relax the hair that's not out of your scalp yet so why does it matter how much NG you have???

Is this in the "hair" issue w/ Jill Scott on the cover??

:barf:

But isnt hair always coming out of the scalp?

Think about it this way...when you shave and the hair grows back it itches right?

Hmmm:scratchch I thought that was because Of skin irritation...cause technically if you look realllll close there are still tiny hairs right there in the skin..you are only shaving off the part that is already completely out, the hair still exists

Perhaps the same thing can be said for new growth that is thicker because it still has all its cuticle layers intact. Perhaps that thicker hair is causing a little itching.

I don't particularly agree with their assessment...but then again I don't get that itchy feeling until I think about the fact that I'm not supposed to be scratching.

I've been searching all over but can't find it. the book was at a friend's house so i'll have to try to get it (the one with Paula Patton).

Sorry about my explanation but a poster above just mentioned what I was thinkin about how it itches after shaving. It still doesn't make sense though because like we all said, the hair is already out.

That's also a good point about the relaxer shrinking. I hope somebody sees the ad. it was a question/answer type ad for their products.

Originally your scalp grew out the thicker hair in order for there to be hair to be relaxed...your scalp never grew out the thinner relaxed hair...maybe the chemicals affect the scalp as well and make it tighter than normal? Idk...:perplexed Ohhhh maybe the scalp gets used to the relaxed hair hanging from it so when the new growth comes out the scalp is itchy because the oils are not traveling down the hair shafts as fast as with relaxed hair?? :wallbash:

Who wha when where???? I don't think it makes sense at all. :look: Why would it just be itching around touch-up time if that was true? I think they're just trying to push their relaxer kits out of the door faster, like: "Get a touch-up now! Your head will stop itching!" :spinning:

Are you referring to her pregnant picture? If so, she is on the front of Ebony May 2010 issue.

I thought about that too. But I keep thinking about all the guys I know who save their heads and end up all itchy.

I think what we need to do is call ORS on Monday and ask them to 'splain...

I'm using net on celly so i don't know how to copy links.

I was googling to find info and a post from here came up titled "has anyone ever experienced a tender scalp re: new growth" and they were discussing this same thing.

I'll check back in tomorrow with link.

:yep::yep::yep:

well that doesn't make sense to me.
Cuz when you relax, the relaxer is not touching the scalp. Therefore, how are the scalp holes (for lack of a better word) shrinking to cause an itch (when ng arrives).
