OKay... I have combo 4a/4b hair that is very dry. It has grown a lot from two years ago when I had severe damage due to postpartum shedding and loss. I also had endured alot of breakage since I did not relax at all during my pregnancy. Since then, it has gotten stronger and longer and is between shoulder and apl length. I suffered some breakage recently in the kitchen area (which is thankfully hidden by the longer layers on top) when my hairdresser started doing aphogee treatments every 3 weeks. I think it was too much protein and not enough moisture. That area is growing back. I have also determined that my hair does not respond well to stretching even to 8 weeks. When I touch up at 6 weeks, I actually retain length better.

So... I remembered that I have a table top steamer. I used a brush to apply neem, amla, coconut, and olive oil to dry hair. I then steamed for 20 minutes.

I then washed with Roux Porosity Control shampoo and followed with mendex. Rinsed and then followed with herbal essences hello hydration as I detangled under running water.

I then applied Biosilk, heat protectant, and Giovani Direct. I proceeded to blow dry and flat iron. AMAZING results! Swinging, soft, moisturized hair. I will not be going back to the hairdresser for a while. And.. I asaved $35!

Please give any advice you can. Should I have also used the Porosity control conditioner too and/or fermodyl?? Is steaming once a week too much? Should I add some cholesterol DC to the steaming process with the oil combination??

I say stick with what you're doing for right now then you can slowly add one thing at a time. Maybe keep a log of your results that way you'll be able to track what works and what doesn't.

I agree. Stick with what you know until it doesn't work anymore, then move on to something else.

I will say that I used Roux shampoo with the leave-in (whatever the "form..." is) and I enjoyed the results (I used it when I decided to flat iron). My hair behaved well, but that was winter time in SC. Once the humidity hit, it failed me. I had to switch up my products. I took out the leave-in and stuck with the shampoo. Now that I'm in florida, I see no benefit of either. I can definitely use other products and get the same results. I digress....

Again, do what works until it stops working then it's on to the next one.

Thank you, ladies. I think I will definitely not fix what 'aint broke! I am also now keeping a log of what I'm doing and how it worked.

I am so happy your hair is on the mend! I would say that neem can be pretty stripping so you might want to trade that out for brahmi occasionally or sometimes use amla alone with the coconut oil. Also with the tannins in the powders and the mendex this is a very "strengthening" routine. So maybe the next time could have a good moisturizing DC with amla and brahmi with leave in etc. You could have a strength week and then a moisture week. Or add a good moisture DC to the routine you posted for a balanced moisture/protein day.
