I have been wearing a half wig for awhile. I deep condition my hair daily and leave it in braids. I took out my braids and I have tangles galore! I have hair coming out in clumps and knots. I am trying to be gentle but I am so frustrated. My hair is wet while I detangle but it does not seem to matter. :wallbash: I am not happy about losing hair in this process.I never had this kind of problem with weaves and braids. I had tangles but nothing like this. Help!

Aww. I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you. Maybe some of the sisters can chime in with a solution to help you.

I'm so sorry about your hair! Perhaps saturating it with olive oil and moisturizing conditioner may help detangle the hair. Just leave it on for several hours/overnight and then try detangling slowy and carefully.

When you take braids out don't detangle when wet. Too many dead hairs still in there plus the NG and the line of demarkation. It's a recipe for breakage. It's too late now but in the future keep that in mind- always comb/detangle before you wash

Yep. It would have been better to let your hair dry, take out a braid, detangle and comb out shed hairs then do that to each individual braid after that. Then you could put a little conditioner on before you actually use a clarifying shampoo then DC or whatever you like.

But since its too late for that, and your hair is already tangled, you should just clarify or do an ACV rinse to get the gunk out. Stand in the shower and coat your hair with conditioner and detangle without the comb and only use your hands to get the big tangles out.. Then use a very wide tooth comb to detangle your hair in sections. Step from under the water and add conditioner if your hair feels hard or gets harder to detangle, or stay under the water if that works better. After you are fully detangled I would do a protein treatment then use a moisturizing conditioner before you do anything else.

I am sorry about your situation but unfortunately it sounds pretty grim Cory Hardrict ...I had this same problem 2 weeks ago when I removed my kinky twist braids.I had knots and tangles and every shampoo, conditioner or oil I put in my hair to get them out didnt help.I ended up leaving my hair saturated with moisturzer overnight.Went in to my stylist the next day and she got the knots out but it was a painful experience. She said my hair must have started to lock up or something like that while it was in the braids.I didnt even have them a good 2 months and never ever had anything happen like that before.I have to do a big cut which I am going to attempt this week since I have removed the weave I have been wearing since the disaster with my hair...It wasnt in prime condition before this happened but this will set me back just a little.Actually, I'm looking forward to the cut so I can start over fresh...

Good luck

The DCing daily probably created too much buildup as well, in case you plan to braid again next time.

Let us know how it comes out:perplexed

I am still detangling!

I think build up is part of the problem even thought I shampooed. I use the ORS uplifting shampoo and ORS hair mayo but I think I am going to switch to giovanni or aubrey organics. Maybe, daily washing is a bad idea. :perplexed My skin has been breaking out and I have had these terrible detangling problems. My hair does look GREAT once I detangle.

I don't think daily washing is the culprit. I think it's dc-ing braids daily.
I myselg have been wearing wigs for the last couple weeks and I began breaking out.... I now think the wig is the cause of the breakouts due to the areas where I'm breaking out.

Try to moisturize your hair as much as possible....like someone else said keep it in overnight. You might also want to get someone else to help you detangle the hair.

Please get thee immediately to a walgreens or a cvs (I am standing looking serious with my fingers pointing in the direction of walgreens!) My first rule of haircare: Thou shant uncomb hair without this product because it will solve all your detangling woes. I don't care how you look. Or send someone else, but GO. Get Dark and Lovely's ouchless Detangler. It's by Softsheen-Carson and it's for KIDS. I had my hair tangled so bad once. It's natural, and someone put in a full weave, and I felt like when I took it out, and washed my hair, it was starting to DREAD. And I mean it. I slowly detangled for like five hours, and so much hair came out! I wish I had that in the beginning. At about 5 a.m I begged my mom to run out and get me something (I was visiting her at the time I decided to take it out the first and only weave). She came back with the ouchless detangler. I wish I had it from the beginning. My hair proceeded to unlock and it took about an hour to do the rest of the detangling. Believe me my hair is so thick 2/3rds of my hair was left to untangle. I wish I had this product from the beginning. I had to do a major chop afterwards because the hair I detangled on my own with shampoo and oils, was so uneven and see through from breakage ( from my careful FIVE HOUR DETANGLE!!!), while the rest with the ouchless detangler was in perfect shape. Don't make the same mistake I did. I highly recommend this product and hope it works for you. No conditioner, or oil worked for me either. I stilluse it, I use just a little bit after every shampoo along with the conditioning method to make sure as few hairs come out as possible because it ROCKS. I am sold on it. Hope that helps!
