I have noticed a trend in some posts lately, really over the past 3 months, and I have noticed this fear factor people are having.

This site has a ton of information and I really think that we all could use some more time just reading. You can't make educated decisions if you don't have information and if you don't understand how and why things work, you will never be able to troubleshoot efficently or correctly. If you are not willing to do the reading and learning behind something you are interested in or something you want to try then seriously:look:

Everyone of us has a different head of hair. We all have the same needs but in different magnitude.

ONCE YOU LEARN THE TOOLS AND BASIS OF HAIRCARE, THERE IS NO NEED TO FEAR THINGS

Being afraid of something doesn't help you. Yes too much of anything is harmful but you need to find your OWN limits because they are all different. Sometimes the fear we have on certain things keeps us from finding the magic bullet in solving our problems and taking our hair care and hair health to the next level. Once you understand something, there is no need to fear it. You just have to learn its place in your hair universe and go from there.

*hair chuch up in here y'all....tell it....tell it*

I feel that people accuse others of being scared of ingredients/techniques when they don't agree.

I'm not scared of anything, I choose not to use certain products based on what I've learned over years of research and trial an error on my own hair.

I'm no chemist, but I'm no idiot either.

Also... NO ONE knows everything. Live and let live.

lol @ Mona Lisa.

This post is great gymfreak! Too many women are afraid and insecure when it comes to hair. IT IS HAIR LADIES! In 98% of us, it will grow back & it can be nursed back to health. You hair will speak to you if something's wrong. Just pay attention to it! :yep:

Don't agree with what?

We are not going to agree on everything, we are not supposed too. Everyones hair is different. Our needs are different hence the purpose of the post. Find what you hair needs and do the dang thang.

For example:

User 1 says "I don't use sulfates, they dry my hair out."

User 2 says "Why not? There's nothing wrong with them, you must be afraid."

I don't know... I just think this is the wrong type of place to assume anyone is not well informed. Most of us think about our hair, take pictures of our hair, research hair and hair products... dream about hair

The vast majority of us are bona fide hair experts.

I do agree that people should be well informed, I don't see a problem with that on this board. In the real world, it's another story.

If you hair has already told you that its a no go then its a no go for you. You have to go off of what your head tells you do. I am talking about people that haven't took time to understand the basics but instead go off of other peoples experiences solely to solve their problems, which still goes on here alot. Just because I didn't like so in so doesn't mean your hair isn't going to like it. Your hair might love it. Just because I think its the devil doesn't mean you have to fear it.

I 100% agree with the bolded.

Maybe I don't pay attention, but I really cannot say that I see a good number of people who don't do their own research/testing.

I get what you mean. I recognize that I think some things are bad for my hair (IMO) but I respect that other people have good results from it. Because when it all boils down if it works it works, no need to be afraid of something just because somebody else had bad results. I know some people start threads saying not to do a lot of stuff I do... not gonna stop anymore because of it. I used to, but now Im just doing what feels right for me.

Thanks Girl for posting this.
I have basically STOPPED posting any new finds or information because of this. I am responding to posts, but that is about it..

I agree with you 100%. Whatever works for people - fine. I know what works for me.... And these days.... I am keeping that to my self.

You still have things that have been discussed to death and people still haven't seem to take in the message. You can tell because of the nature of some posts. I think part of it is that we all get lazy sometimes and going thorough a 50 pg thread isn't the most fun activity but it could have the information you have been looking for. Sistaslick has wonderful articles with the links in her siggy but sometimes (and I think is just one of the cycles we go through here) the message still doesn't get across.

Sareca said it in another thread, I think she said that "Hair rules are only rules when they work for you" or something like that. :yep::yep:

Thank you.

When I first found this site, I didn't pay for almost 7 months, so I had no choice but to do my own research, search, and read everything I saw.

I think some people definitely ask questions and don't understand.

And I've been seeing alot of repeated questions around here ..

You are right, they don't......

For example: "Tell me all about Henna" - I mean - there are 8 million threads about this..........

I just skip those threads...it is outrageous. Read the posts people! Do a google search!

Sorry.... I just am a bit frustrated.

GymFreak, Again thank you for starting the discussion. I respect you and your advice greatly on this board.

 Why you got me laughing. I just think that there are alot of posts here that are amazing gems full of priceless information and get left unnoticed. Supergirls breakage thread is one that I have seen recently get bumped that is great. The archives have alot of info in them too. I go back in there sometimes just to refresh myself.

:yep: The icing on the cake is a repeated question in the same thread, and someone states 'I didn't feel like reading the other posts, but I wanted to ask...' :wallbash:

I feel your frustration.

Hmm... maybe I'm one of the patient few.

I expect for there to be repeated questions. As long as there are new members, there will be people still learning. It's a forum... that's what happens on forums.

A lot of the time a subject can be talked about to death and someone will have a question about it that hasn't been answered previously.

I will keep in mind not to ask questions here anymore before reading every single page on the subject that I can find. :look:

:wallbash::wallbash: AAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHH! That really gets on my nerves!:wallbash::wallbash: When I decided to join the MT/OCT challenge, I didn't have a problem going back and reading the entire thread.:nono: Most of my questions about the product were answer just by me taking the time to read the thread. Sheesh! What's so hard about that? I think some people just want their question answered quick, fast, in a hurry. But then have the nerve to complain about shedding and breakage. This could have been avoided if they read the dog-gone thread!

Totally in agreement here - your hair MUST be the final determinator in anything that you choose to do.

And yeah, I've seen people being called 'afraid' of something, when really they just know better, for their hair.

Yeah. That's one of my very hot buttons. I still try to be helpful to the newbs, so I organize threads of interest to me in my subscription folder, and just provide links when people ask the same question that's been asked 50-11 times before. :look: I will admit, if you have over a certain number of posts, I'm not quite so helpful.

Also, pointing people to the Search sticky is my SOP - I'll always help you figure out how to help yourself.

I'm not sure if you were being serious or sarcastic, but in all seriousness, that's a REALLY GOOD IDEA.
Simply because by reading all that you can on a subject, you'll learn so much more than you will by asking a question - esp. if the subject has been rehashed, and rehashed, and rehashed. I've almost ALWAYS gotten more information by doing a search and reading old threads than I have from starting a new thread - esp. on popular subjects.

This is very true. There are a few products which I use and work for me which people can't stand because they don't work for them. Am I going to stop using them because of that or because they contain some ingredient which people think is harmful to hair? No, not if they are working for me! Sometimes a product runs out, you go to the store and there is no more in stock and you have to end up buying and trying something else. It's happened to me about three times. It may be a product most people hate or fear but it ends up working for you. Everyone's hair is different and will respond differently to products. It's true that once you have educated yourself on the basics of hair care and have figured out more or less what your hair likes, it is easier to choose your products. Nothing to fear, do what works for you...Good thread!

THAT AIN'T NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!

Especially where it concerns henna, imo.

I see a lotta 'Henna Horror Stories'...:ohwell:

Now I don't claim infinite knowledge on anything. We're all learning but I know enough not to be throwing anything and everything in my head when I don't know what it is or what it can or what to do if something goes wrong.

That mess can take your hair out if you use the wrong type. ...and you can break if you don't know enough about the different powders to know what they can and can't do to your head....

...all I know is I read that henna thread back and forth.
All 78980097908901 pages of it. LOL

Yeah, I was serious

Before I would do a search and read quite a bit of the info, some full threads and sometimes just a few pages of some threads.. certainly a lot, but not all of it. It's a big undertaking to read hundreds of pages... but I'll do it from now on.

;) You gotta check sometimes, I've gotten hemmed up thinking people were serious and they were firmly tongue in cheek.

Yeah - I'm not minimizing the size of the undertaking - esp. on the bigger threads, but - this hair game ain't no joke.

Here's my thoughts... I think that some people believe thier regimen is perfect. Every product they use is perfect and when people say they dont like it or had a bad experience with it, other people get pissy. I feel like people have started attacking people over products. People should be free to post what they liked or didnt like about a product, vendor, technique or anything else hair related on this board WITHOUT BACKLASH OR PERSONAL ATTACKS! Yes some of us go the unconventional route. And yes I turn my nose up at some stuff. I just cant get with some things BUT I bypass those threads especially when I havent even tried the product/technique/etc. I dont go in there and call people punks for not trying it or get reved up dishing out personal attacks. I dont call people fraidy cats either. I dont think every shoudl try everything. PJ-ism is a bad habit. And it hardly ever helps.
