I just wanted to say THANKS to all of you and for all of the beautiful words of encouragement.

I have always has issues with my hair from breakage to hairdresser envy. What I try to do now is to take charge of my "hair's" life. If I want long hair I have to be proactive it its growth. The same way with raising a child. If you bother the child too much, not enough, mistreat the child, then you will get exactly what you give.

The history of my hair is this.

I have, like India Arie, got my first perm at eight. My mom tried a jerri curl [not knowing that you have to wait for it grow out before using it, suffice to say my mom called herself fixing it by cutting all the straight ends off] It broke off after that. I have had every haircut in the book from a crewcut, Halle Berry style to a doobie.

I find that if I just leave my hair alone, she will do what she wants. If I mess with her too much, she will break off. I know that my hair needs moisture after 2 days because it begins to feel dry. Most people do not know how long my hair is because I keep it up all the time.

When I first get my hair permed. I will wear it down for 2-3 days. After that I keep my hair either in one braid or two. As I said not glamourous at all. At first my husband did not appreciate my old lady hair, but when I whip that baby out when we have family functions, etc. He LOVES it. I might go to the hairdresser two weeks after a touchup, but then I do not go. I find that they are always pushing for you to get a touchup [earlier than I want] and are not alway gentle with the new growth. After that I am no-pooing every 2-3 days, maybe shampooing every three weeks. I do not use any particular shampoo or conditioner. I was using NTM for a while, but it left a film on my hair. I try and stretch my perms ever 2-3 months, but if I find that I have gotten a lot of growth during that period and if I detangle I am losing a lot of hair, I will get my touch up sooner.

About three years ago, I went natural and cut all of my perm ends off. But made mistakes right off the bat [permanent color, blow drying, etc.] So last year May is when I got the perm again.

I do not use any special products in my hair. I do not take any vitamins [I wish I would because I have a drawer full that are collecting dust]. I do not use oil in my hair. I just no poo put it in the braids and put a scarf on to flatten my hair. Thanks it. I attribute the growth to just babying it when I wash and detangle and knowing when to adjust stretching my touchups.

I hope I answered all the questions, if I didn't please let me know.

Again, I would want to thank all the GREAT advice I have received on LHCH!!
