I'm just joking, I'm not really angry , just curious. How come black women in Cali have such super fly hair?! It's always thick and long, and even when it's not that long it still looks good. What is it? Good weave? Good perm? Good flat iron? What?! SPILL IT GIRLS! What are you guys doing that's so different from the rest of us!:drunk:

For me its:
1. Healthy hair care practices
2. Using the right products for my hair type
3. Black-Belt styling technique/skills AND
4. Gorgeous, humid-free, summer-like weather 10 months out the year!:yay:

 And I was just admiring your hair! I'm considering becoming a heat straightened natural and I've heard that many straight haired black women from Cali are actually naturals. So I wanna know what their doing to get such great results. Everytime I try to straighten my own hair it comes out a poofy mess, I might just give in and go to a salon. Although I'm doing everything in my power to NOT spend the money.

Awwwww...thanks Bri505!
All of my girlfriends and my sisters are heat-straightened naturals! And most of us, our pressed hair lasts 2 weeks plus or until we choose to shampoo. Cali is definitely a heat-straightened friendly-state!

How do you deal when you exercise? I run every morning so thats my main concern. I don't want to NOT exercise to keep a hair style. :ohwell:

Oh I hear ya! Exercise before hair always! Here is a link to an article I wrote for LHDC's blog about heat-straightened naturals and exercise.

Now I did write this before I did the BKT! Reversion is almost non existent after I exercise, now that I have the bkt coating on my hair strands.

Lol...yea like everyone else said I think it's the weather :yep: Plus so many women here do have beautiful hair that you HAVE to stay on point.

The bold is definitely true. Growing up I didn't know anyone who had a relaxer, everyone got a press and curl and wore a wrap. I really think it has something to do with the weather because I could make a wrap last a month even though I played sports. But, my hair dresser's never skimped on the heat and I never even knew what heat protectant was. We also have great weaves here.

In my case, the dry weather helps as well when I wear "out" styles. Humidity would make my bantu knot outs puff up super quick, but we don't have that here so my styles last longer.

there you have it - do not underestimate the importance of number four!

:yep: I don't mind going weekly to a salon to get my hair pressed.. (okay yes I do thats some real $$). I think I'm just coming to the conclusion that I'm unable when it comes to styling natural hair. I also don't want to relax so being a heat straightened natural seems like my best bet.

You guys think it's the weather? :scratchchin:

Hmmm, never thought about that. I don't think us ladies in Cali have a monopoly on great hair though...

I never thought about it, but when I lived in Hawaii and here it was healthy and growing in spite of what I was doing with it. When I lived in the Midwest and East Coast it was shear H E double hocky sticks on my hair. I guess it is the weather. Never thought about it before.

I think weekly pressing would be wayyyy too much...especially if you want the option of wearing your natural hair and not having it look wonky.

I personally can't straighten my own hair. Since I don't wear straight styles, it's fine, but if I was going to I'd have to go to the shop.

But, there are a lot of styles you can wear as a natural that don't necessarily involve super high heat. For example, a couple of months in college while I was doing my semester away in DC, I blowdried my hair like every 7-10 days and put satin covered sponge rollers in every night. In the morning I took them out and had a cute curly style that I could do a lot with (pin up, wear down, head band, half up/half down, ponytail, bun, etc.).

Agreed with everything PinkSkates said, my pressed hair always lasts two weeks, i probably could even go longer.

This cali girl surely miss that "Cali press" as they call it now! When I moved to NC I searched for some one to do my hair...my current hair stylist sort of knows how, but still not the same! The humidity in the south is the reason why so many women have perms and dare not go natural...I remain true to my roots! I just don't get my hair done as often...But now I am going to get this BKT...will I be considered natural still?

def the weather
i don't live there and i've never been there but i know it's the weather
it's the only reason im jealous of the west coast

Girl........its the weather and I cant help but say a large amount of ladies here are health conscious about their diet and lifestyle which helps:)

And here in Los Angeles its definitely about looking good and feeling good.
