I went to a Dominican Salon recommended by a friend of mine to get a price on a blow out for me.
The lady asked me if I ever had a relaxer and I said not since October.
The lady talks to the owner (not sure what she said because I dont speak Spanish) and replies back to me.

"WE DONT DO NATURAL HAIR HERE!"

I was like:eek:  :perplexed :lachen:

So I just left. The other one wanted to charge me extra since I have about 4" of ng.

Wow..I thought most Dominican salons do a variety of hair. Guess not in my neighborhood.

I am having the same problem, I went to Memphis for a consultation to get a flat twisted style for my wedding hair

...this lady says, "when was your last relaxer?" I said ' Five years ago'. She was like "Baby, you gone need a perm for that style" I was like 'flat twists?, isn't that a multi-textured style?' Then she was like "any race can wear it, but your hair needs to be straight."

I said multi-TEXTURED, not multi-RACIAL, anywho this other more sincere hairdresser says, "baby, I probably can do it but we need to press it out a little so the gel will lay right"...

It was pretty obvious that they knew nothing about natural hair period. I know for a fact flat twists can be smoothly achieved on wet natural hair without heat. I used to do them when my hair was shorter. I guess I better get to practicing.

First that style is BEAUTIFUL!
Second, if she can't do it just say so. If you cant do it with what you are given, OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND SAY SO!

It irks me to no end.

Good luck finding someone to do it!

What a SHAME. I know plenty of naturals (NEVER been relaxed) who wear flat-twists, this is quite a common style. Geez, that sucks.

For real? I thought that dominicans can blow out any hair strait like a relaxer! In my old town, the DS near me could work natural hair strait like magic! I really miss that place!:ohwell:

Wow, that sounds too close to home, which salon was it, I am in Miami. As far as the twists, that makes no sense to me at all, it seemes like it would be easier with virgin hair, no?

Its Susy's in Pembroke Pines.

I didn't like my Dominican experience either. I thought she was full of crap and they are overrated. At least from my experience. I will stick with the black stylish who knows about healthy hair.
