First off i want to say heyyy boo! to all of you. I've been lurking forever and decided that I just needed to come off the $7 and become a "real" member...

Now for the help... I'm in my second installment of braids without having a relaxer between them. I need to take them out b/c I'm getting them done this weekend. The thing is I have to have them out by Saturday morning and i want/need to do a relaxer inbetween this set of braids. The problem lies in that i want to take the braids out tonight but if I do that i need to relax it tonight also. I know that doing that is a big no no but I don't work in the type of environment were I can wear a fro or a headwrap and my hair is def not the pressing type... Any ideas of any conditioners that I can use that might help lesson the stress if I take themout and relax them tonight? or any tips what so ever?

Can you put your hair in a bun and use IC polisher gel or something like that on your edges to prevent you from relaxing so soon?

I reeeaaally advise against relaxing so soon. There are so many other things you can do

Rollerset
Flexi rod set
Flatiron
Blowdry
Scarf Method
Wig

So many healthier options :yep:

I think that my hair is above shoulder length (too short for a bun or pony) and I REALLY don't have any money for a wig or anything... ugh I'm at a loss as to what to do... I'm also trying to figure out if i want to go natural and try and grow it long or if I want to relax and grow it long... then i have questions about texlaxers or what ever they're called... this is so over whelming but I need to make a decision within the next 10 minutes

Hey and welcome, i wouldnt advise relaxing so soon. If u do take the braids out tonight clean and deep condition. Stretching maybe good and prevent a setback.

If you dont want to blow dry or do a braidout or anything, you can try a phony bun (or whatever its called) since your hair is shorter. Get a really good moisturizing DC (if you dont have one already) and slick it back into a ponytail after, then stick the phony bun thing on it.

HTH. I'm sorry. I cant think of anything else.

What about a braidout, twistout or bantu knot set?

Do you have a flatiron or blowdryer?

are you natural or relaxed?
could you do a wash and go or some twists?

skip the relaxer.

I have read too many times on this board about people who have had major setbacks because of relaxing so soon after taking braids/weaves out. And then to put new braids in on freshly relaxed hair? That's just asking for trouble.

I say take them out, DC really well, and pin your hair up tomorrow if you can't do a ponytail or bun. Then Saturday get your braids. You may as well continue stretching since you're going to get braids anyway.

My favorite thing to do is a curly phony pony - almost like afro curly, but not kinky, more like a 3 c curl. I buy a track of hair like you would use for a sew in - My BSS charges $7.99, then I put my hair back into a pony, then wrap and bobby pin the hair around the pony. With the curly hair it covers up any imperfections you may have. Plus you can do a headband or scarf to dress it up.

I have both but my hair is so thick and resistant that it's almost impossible to do without relaxing it first.

Well a little update I went to the BSS and I got Aphogee shampoo, 2 step protein treatment, and balancing moisturizer as well as some coconut oil (it looks like greease though not too sure about that) and some of those flex rollers... I thought I might take out the braids clean deep condition and then try to roller set it to like a curly afro... I don't know did I get the right stuff?

I've never been too good with doing my own hair but I'm trying to do better and trying to get my hair to grow again. There are just so much to learn. Do you think that I"m off to a good start? I figure if it looks too bad than I can put on a scarf (a la 2000) and try to fix it this weekend.

Hi there! Welcome to LHCF. I agree with the others. I wouldn't relax it just yet :nono:, you're just asking for trouble. I used to remove my braids and relax immediately after because my hair was so wild and out of control. Doing this will cause more damage, especially if you're having issues with breakage. I would do some conditioning and protein treatments (Aphogee). I also think the rollerset is a good idea.:yep:

Good luck and Happy hair growing!

You got some good stuff there to get you going. Im sure your rollerset will look great. Glad you decided against a relaxer tonight.
