Oils that make hair "dry"... "crunchy"?

I've read on here some people saying that some oils that work for alot of people tend to make their hair feel crunchy. Why is that?
I've noticed that with my own hair and evoo. I use a mix of shea butter, carrot oil and evoo on my end,s scalp (ng), and sparingly on my hair, but my hair reacts funny.Should I add water to the mix? For those who have the same issue with evoo what do you use instead?

I want to try evco, but i figured I'd wait since I'm using AO GPB and that uses a "coconut fatty acid base". (Works wonders btw) So I didn't want a product overload...What do you guys use to moisturize?

For my hair its coconut oil, i have no idea why my hair gets dry, crunchy and starts to break.:nono: It also depends on the product ingredient list if coconut oil is way at the bottom there is a small chance it may work. Other than that its a no no for me.

plain evoo & coconut oil makes my hair hard and crunchy. But WGHO contains olive oil & coconut oil and always leaves my hair soft, pliable and supple.

Don't they all? :look:

On a serious note, EVOO put me off trying any. I do think coconut could work well w/o making hair hard/crunchy--although someone said it didn't. I also seem to believe Safflower oil too would be good. And rice bran oil. Msa uses castor oil alone on damp hair to seal in moisture and swears it makes her hair soft. I am yet to try any of these...but I think I'd have to be really bored with nothing better to do than experiment to test them. I'm so lazy that should that day come when I'm up for this, I will probably just lie down till the feeling goes away.

:lachen:You too? I swear every time I get the feeling that I want to try something new with my hair, I get distracted by whatever book I'm reading at the time. Then the urge passes, and I'm okay with that.

Anywho...plain shea butter makes my hair hard. If it's mixed with something else (or in a product like Oyin's Whipped Pudding) it's fine. I tried deep conditioning with it once.:nono: My hair was hard for weeks.

I used to experience this with oils before I found LHCF. Now because I always ensure I oil my hair when damp or moisturise first with a water based leave in, this never happens to me no matter what oil I use

Olive oil used to when I was relaxed. Thats about the only oil I had problems with..I use evoo all the time now, though.

EVOO makes my hair hard if i just put it on my hair by itself to moisturize or seal. but mixed in conditioners its fab....

For me, it's EVOO & coconut oil by themselves.

I also notice that EVOO & Soybean oil together in certain concoctions (i.e., Lisa's Hair Elixir) give me a crunchy feeling.

"coconut fatty acid base" is just cetyl/cetearyl alcohol, which is not coconut oil. Aubrey Organics is just using creative labeling on that one and since are rules aren't that strict here in the US no one can call them on it.

LOL yes I do swear it.

But I've noticed, oils only work for me on wet/damp hair. Putting them on dry hair does nothing. It's because oils don't moisturize, so if your hair is already dry, it's only going to make it dry and greasy.

Just a little bit of Mineral Oil made my hair cunchy.

The best oils for my hair has been Sweet Almond Oil and Castor Oil. Too much of anything will maky your hair dry, cakey, or crunchy. That's why it's good to frequently wash to clean the oil that is just sitting on top of your hair.

I just bought Vatika Oil it's lighter than Castor Oil but heavier than Sweet Almond Oil and I like it so far.

Interesting....I wonder what else I've overlooked...
On a side note the AO GPB is my only staple so far. I'm still building a regimen.

I love Ginseng MIracle 8. But I use it alone tho. Is anyone applying to wet hair.

Yup, tried it on wet and dry hair. I used Doo Gro Oil and CD's tui hair oil. Both made my hair crunchy and crispy.

those are adjectives better describing fried chicken than my hair. I've turned to water base moisturizers alone, and I don't seal.

Hi Ladies,

Just though I'd share that before oil would just coat my hair and not do anything for my hair. I tried one coconut oil and hateeeeeeeeed it. Than I bought another type ( parachute) and it worked well for me.

I remember ladies making threads about CO and I was like ya ok they must be crazy, but for teh least it wasnt work for me at all!!! When I went to the indian grocery and saw parachute I was like ok for a few bucks lemme give it a try and my results were totally different.

I know that what works for me may not work for someone else, but sometimes its just a matter of trying another brand.

HTH

I know I'm mad late (I was doing forum searches) but thanks for the info.
That's super annoying. I hate the creative labeling.

and while I'm here, evoo doesn't seem to do much for me either.

Yeah the creative labeling thing is annoying, but I've noticed recently on some bottles it says exactly what it is.

I've since fallen in love with AO conditioners so I've chosen to forgive them for the labeling issue.

Every oil makes my hair crunchy. I don't think my hair likes oils at all, and it makes no difference whether I apply it to dry, moist or wet hair - it's always the same dry, crunchy result. However, there is this oil my hair does like - it's called Sahara Single Bible Soft Oil (or something similar). It is glycerine-based, though. Somehow, it works really, really well for my hair and makes it all soft (especially when I apply it to my moist hair, then blowdry).
My hair also does well with butters, especially shea butter on moist hair.

Coconut oil, and especially the Vatika oil. It feels ok going on, but then later in the day my hair is dry & crunchy. EVOO is ok for me, but I find avocado oil to be the only oil I can use for daily maintenance.
